did you resort to messaging gome44?

Of course not!! I just stared at it for long enough then became disappointed in myself for being so bullish in applying a substitution at first sight....love the pic btw.

Out of interest, is there a nice, quick way of knowing if multiplying by the conjugate gives 1? Like a little test I can do before attacking something to make sure I don't go through the heavy substitution in the Q above?

easy to see what you are left with after the difference of squares.

Definitely as I had requests to the opposite.

Some of the questions (like the ones for series) were classed as impossible by some.

Fair enough, slowly trying to train myself out of the methodical A Level approach to questions in prep for STEP, your questions can often be done rather eloquently compared to the 'standard' way....keep them coming!! Will you be posting a questions every day through the summer?

One a day until the day of results.
I am writing mainly undergrad material at the moment, but I am still adding (only hard) questions to the school level material.

I am also doing the special papers at the moment.
The planning of the questions takes longer than I anticipated.
These will be 26 super papers covering C1 to C4.
I hope the first paper to hit my site within a month.

Great, I like to look over them and just think through it without actually doing them...fun exercise.

Special papers? Are they IGYB or....?
Would enjoy working through the super papers, sounds fun.....

Know of any good books etc that cover proof by induction nicely?

Any standard FP1 textbook will cover introductory induction adequately, so stick to a textbook recommended by your board.

Yes. Very much like rationalising a denominator that contains a surd....

Ah ok. Took me a few minutes to spot but i have done alot of work with the expression'x+-(x^2-1)^1/2' in stephence being able to se it.

I just stared at it for ten minutes..although in my defence the majority was spent trying to work out in my head if multiplying by the conjugate gave 1 in the denominator, a task which required far too much thought than it should of given the lack of maths I have done in about a month now :ahee:
