Top 10 things people waste money on

With the summer holidays approaching and a whole new group of students starting to prepare for university; there's never been a better time to start budgetting and thinking about what to spend your money on.

Instead of listing things you should be buying.. I thought it might be interesting to come up with a list of things you shouldn't be buying (and yet many still do!). So what's your top 10 things people waste money on?

Here's some of mine:

1. Bottled water
2. Storage for possessions (if its being put away in a lockup, chances are you don't need it anyway)
3. A new mobile when the old one still works fine
4. Fancy kitchen gadgets
5. Gym membership you never use
6. Premixed drinks
7. Branded medicine
8. Microwave meals
9. Anything luxury to do with pets
10. Debt which charges interest

Toilet paper - steal it from uni, you pay enough to go there after all.
In fact, a university education might as well go on the list and all.
Cheap cosmetics - seriously, go for the higher priced stuff as you don't have to use so much of it at a time, cheap ones are a false economy as you get through them so much faster.

Watch out about buying shampoo etc. from the pound store as the bottles are often smaller so you're not actually saving.

Not taking advantage of offers on timeless yet expensive stuff like laundry detergent/toilet paper is also a waste - buy it before you need it!
Coke
KFC
McDonalds
Botteled water
Subway
Hard cover books when i can get it on my phone for a cheaper price
Tube transport when i can use thr bus
Cant think of 3 more :frown:

Snacks like biscuits, crisps and chocolate. Make sure to eat a proper, filling meal with plenty of vegetables and you shouldn't be hungry in between meals, also make sure to drink a lot of water so you don't think you're hungry when actually you're dehydrated.

Make that anything sold by the cinema unless it's tickets for the actual show. It's about £2 for a bottle of cola. Also don't bother watching 3D or IMAX, it's still just a good (or bad) a film in normal 2D.

Yeah. I really think education is just a huge ponzi scheme, and the only enrichment anyone ever gets is the VC, who is collecting 200-300k pds per year for doing nothing.
