Why is british culture so awful compared to the rest of europe?

Scroll to see replies

Not all of Europe is tranquil vistas of small villages and communities having a fiesta and a barbecue every day.

What countries did you live again?

Germany, Finland and Bulgaria. Obviously, it's easy to say that the United Kingdom is better than Bulgaria but you have to appreciate that a British person going over there can live like a King because of the favourable exchange rate.

As I said, my formula should give you a pretty accurate approximation. I have my reasons for not disclosing the actual number. Deal with it.

You're still hanging around a forum of which I'd say about 85% of members are students. Strangely though, you're apparently a successful, educated consultant who has 'life experience'. And yet, you still won't tell us all just how old you are. Strange.

Personally, I call your bluff.

I visited southern portugal over the holidays and even though the country is not as developed as britain i noticed the people over there were very dignified and civilised. and i've noticed this in other european countries i've visited such as denmark, germany and italy.

ladies dress fashionably yet modestly, unlike here. they don't look like they've woken up and slapped on a massive amount of makeup while putting on a duckface. you won't see men wearing tracksuits and trainers, people actually look smart and put an effort in how they look.

Also there are no chavs to be seen anywhere. you don't get little nobheads going around in bikes, or a group of youths causing havoc in the town centre. the streets are impeccably clean, people value the ground they walk on and give it care.

i came back to the uk and felt sick at what i saw on my return. from the people to the state of the cities, and british culture in general, i long to finally emigrate from this place. and before someone criticises me for generalising, i do happen to look at this from a general point of view. generally british culture is a lot more awful and disgusting than the rest of europe.

I wonder if all of that pleasantness you experienced has anything to do with you being a tourist...

Yes, for entertainment/amusement reasons. Plenty of graduates do. We established that already.

Why is that strange? Where's the contradiction? And don't I make you look stupid with every post like a successful, educated, ex-consultant would with life experience would do?

What's entertaining about telling people they need to dress better or forever be branded as a lesser person than you and society? You being the person who apparently likes to dress and act pompous over a student forum.

No, not at all. In fact, the things you have wrote on here in the last few days have been pretty stupid.

I'm interested in what you believe to be a substantial age to of gained life experience?

I'm 25.

To 'of' gained life experience? Surely not before they learned how to spell.

I would say mid-twenties, but it of course depends on how much that person has done in their life up to that point: travelling/studying/living working abroad, work, socialising, etc.

I spend near 10 years in the Armed Forces which gave me a lot of management skills. I traveled the world and gained a lot of respect for others. Unlike you.

You have this vision that you're high and mighty because you're some sort of management consultant and that you (believe you dress well). You role is a one way street, boring and anyone with half a brain can do it.

When we had new recruits turn up at Catterick do you think those guys were bothered about what people were wearing? Most of the guys came in wearing track suits - does that make them a lesser person?

A lot of recruits come from hard-up families and areas of the UK but they gave 100% in everything they did and do today for the UK.

But because they wear track suits, they're not as substantial as you, right?

Wake up.

And lastly; failure? I'm now studying Law which will far surpass you in all aspects of career - which my management skills and experience already do - And yes, I am studying at a good, Russell Group, university.

Note: You apparently earn 37k a year. I was on more as an officer and I only had GCSE at the time.

Good going

No. It's normal. As said before, it is a pretty valid indicator of that person's level of intelligence, education, and sophistication.

Surely not spelling skills though - it's 'travelled'. Take it from someone for whom English is a foreign language.

I won't get into how the armed forces really is a bunch of trigger-happy, retarded nationalists, fascists, and private sector rejects who kill people for a living (and for joy). The fact you went there right after school and stayed for nearly a damn decade says everything about you.

High and mighty are the wrong words. The job did give me a lot of knowledge and skills that most graduates, let alone non-graduates, will never get. It opened doors that remain locked to others, and it pays more money than others would earn.

If you are talking about my consulting job, you're very wrong. It's a profession that leaves you loads of options, is varied, and morons like you wouldn't even make it past the first assessment center.

No. That might actually be appropriate attire for the situation.

Wow, you have no idea what you're talking about. You have no management skills. You don't learn management skills in the armed forces. That is what they tell you that you learned so you stand a chance to get a job in the real world. You learn to follow orders. To kill people. You're brainless sheep. You won't surpass me in any 'aspects'. Your armed forces 'experience' is tarnishing your CV, you will always be 7-8 older than people applying for the same job. You're a gigantic failure.

No, actually I don't. That was my starting salary excluding perks and bonus, before I got my first promotion six months into the job. A few years ago I was already making more than you POS will ever make in your life  Also, how pathetic does one have to be to go through my profile? Talk about having no social life...

Not every part of the UK is full of nobheads on bmx bikes. I didn't see any on the Norfolk Broads. Fortunately they have not learned how to make them float yet.

I have lived in 4 European countries in my lifetime and the United Kingdom is the worst of the lot. There is definitely more of a social and family oriented way of life abroad and the United Kingdom is far more focused on consumer goods and materialism. I also find it hilarious how so many Brits, especially the media, slate other European countries they've never visited purely out of spite and jealousy.

The vast majority of insults that could be applied to these countries are applicable to the United Kingdom as well. I honestly cannot wait to leave and feel sorry for the misguided youth who've been brainwashed into thinking the United Kingdom is the greatest place in the world. So many British people suffer from a superiority complex when it comes to the country it is bewildering.

1. Chavs everywhere
2. Binge drinking culture
3. Lack of respect for elderly people
4. The weather is generally terrible
5. A culture of dependency - people who have never been off welfare
6. More racism and xenophobia
7. Everything costs so much in comparison to wages
8. Ridiculous house prices for rubbish houses
9. Values money over culture and tradition
10. An oppressive nanny state
11. The food is terribly unhealthy
12. Being intelligent is frowned upon by many in society
13. A lot of the people are fake
14. Arrogance when it comes to sports like football
15. The stress the government puts on working people

That is just a small list of the terrible things. I honestly can't wait to leave again. Now I am old enough to leave of my own free will and have the finances to do so I I will be doing so this year.

British culture
1. Binge drinking
2. Urinating in the street
3. Moaning about everything
4. Radical feminism
5. Claim culture
6. Holier than thou arrogance
7. Having sex with everyone
8. Breeding constantly
9. Poor work ethic
10.Swearing at everyone including the elderly ,your parents, teachers.
11. Stealing from others
12-Plagiarism
13-White Beauty Myth
14-The more 'modern' they are pretty much equates to wearing less and less clothes and sleeping with x number of partners
british culture is pretty disgusting tbh. guys with pink skin colour just smashing pints in the pub and eating sausage, bacon, fish, chips and baked beans all day. u can tell it's a dirty lifestyle by the smell of their farts (english farts usually smell like a dead rat somehow found its way up their rectum).

and who gives a **** about the queen she doesn't do ****.

Well said , most of them are imperial criminals lol.
The welfare state of the UK has been responsible for breeding armies of chavs.
So the OP comment on my threads and I got bored so looked at his and this tickled my fancy.

While Mediterranean people are generally friendly and healthy but they are not rich by any stretch. Unless they live in coastal cities or actually run tourist attractions they are not rich.

The only reason why they're healthier is because of their better diets, swimming pools and beaches. People are much more active because of the better weather.

Talking about Europe in general, most of it is sh*t or at least Western Europe. I predict that the OP gets the plane to his destinations we get the ferry to Northern Spain and drive down to either Southern Spain or Portugal - everywhere is sh*t but the tourist places. Disgustingly dirty towns and villages, empty developments, huge unemployment, dusty roads and in some places we've driven through there have been people living in slum-like conditions.

There are also very, very lazy people - even in a major tourist places. Going to work at 10am, 2 hour lunch breaks, siestas, no one working on Sundays and people leaving work early to go to the beach. The work ethic is atrocious and perhaps countries like Spain would improve.

Italy and France is almost the same, disgusting places and in places like Paris the attitudes of some people is awful. Paris is full of dog sh*t too, and I think it's Italy where the bin men go on strike and the rubbish just piles up for weeks. Even in Venice.
Lots of exaggeration ITT.

I can see both sides of the argument, we're talking about huge amounts of people. In general I agree with the OP though. When compared to France (I'm half French) British people in general seem to be less mature, less sure of themselves, more inclined towards consumerism, follow trends more, follow political correctness more, more cynical (actually french people are cynical too, but in a different way). The biggest difference is between teenagers and students, in France students basically act like adults but in the UK they are like drunken, whiney, spoilt brats with no real personalities. People in France seem to be able to have fun in a more genuine and spontaneous way whereas in the UK it has to involve huge amounts of alcohol drunken very quickly, or some kind of "theme", everything always seems a bit forced. You also have people getting offended at every little thing, girls wearing nothing but acting horrified when men want to have sex with them, men who are scared to even talk to girls (rarely happens in france), fatness, general Americanisation, and a large underclass and the UK can seem quite bleak in comparison.

On the other hand parts of the UK are really nice, those middle class market towns that have an "englishness" about them. This is the part of the UK worth keeping but it's pretty much been destroyed in the face of globalism and consumerism. Only the upper middle class experience it and they guard it fiercely.

What about Wales and Scotland?

I have little experience with either, the Scottish countryside seems beautiful though.

europeans have hardly anything positive to say about britain in my experience. if it wasn't for london, they wouldn't go near the uk with a barge pole.

If UK is so bad why are there so many immigrants risking their lives to get here?
