Corbyn attacked by Brown

Gordon Brown outlined his political position in his "Power for a Purpose" speech yesterday. He was terrified that all of the deals he had concluded with various presidents and leaders of big business would be abandoned:

"How can we say that for progressives the best way of facing the future is to abandon co-operation with Europe, to leave our membership of the European Union just at the time when our leadership is needed more than ever to fight protectionism and xenophobic isolationism and all the extremes of racism, discrimination and prejudice?"

He reminded the party faithful that Labour could not be honest in public about its policies:

'Remember that we seek power for a purpose. We seek power out of principle. But we cannot win power if we do not win the people.'

There is nothing wrong with denying it, part of learning and studying is questioning things and many come to the conclusion the official story is bogus.

It was consistently in front in the polls. The difference between Gordon Brown nationally and Gordon Brown in Scotland is that Labour actually did pretty well in Scotland in the 2010 election and Brown is still held in some esteem there.

I think you'll find they won the referendum fairly effectively and Gordon Brown's eve-of-poll speech was very well received.
I think 'attack' is quite a strong word for a speech in which Corbyn was never mentioned by name...

Nor was the content particularly aggressive - all Brown said was that if Labour wants to change people's lives, they need to be in government.

This was Blair's argument against the risk of Labour leaning to the left under Brown, and why Blair hung on for longer than he had intended. His fear was that Brown would take Labour in a direction where it would get defeated.

Of course when they lost in 2010, the diagnosis became "Labour weren't trusted because of Blair/the Iraq War"

Yes, people are allowed to think what they want. But that doesn't exempt them from being called vile people. Some people think that black people are inferior and should be killed - they are allowed to have that opinion, but that still makes them vile.

I don't think that the Iraq War had much bearing on the 2010 General Election. After the 2008 financial crash there seemed to be an enormous shift in politics away from Iraq and terrorism, onto the economy and unemployment, and Labour's reputation in this area had taken a battering (and still hasn't recovered from it).
