foundation year then the degree

From what I understand, Foundation years serve as a "bridge" to undergrad entry, for example if you didn't get the required grades in the required subjects. So in some regards, they're the same as doing an Access to HE course.

some unis offer a foundation year before you start on the actual degree programme- do these foundation years offer benefit, Are they negatively perceived?

Yes foundation years are quite beneficial. They help prepare your thought processes and build on your skills so you'll be prepared for the degree.

Like the person above said, it's almost like a bridge.

If you feel like you need to develop your skills a bit more, work on a portfolio or explore your options; they're good to consider. It also helps if you're not quite sure which subject from a certain sector (like art and design) to choose.

For example, we do 3 pathways, a media one, fashion one, general arts and design foundation (where you study all design subjects then choose your favourite subject and focus on that for the last 2 terms) so there's a lot to choose from.

Foundation courses are great, especially for creative based subjects so that you can build up your portfolio, decide on a pathway, and learn a lot more in preparation for the degree!
