My exam board has got my result wrong!!!!!!

I got ''263 ums'' (7ums away form an A*)
I got:
Unit 1 urdu A* 57/60 ums = 37/40
Unit 2 urdu A* 57/60 = 38/40
Unit 3 urdu A* 90/90 = 60/60
Unit 4 urdu C 59/90 = 44/60

This gives me an A grade. However I lost 21 marks, 180/200 is an A*. So i should be one mark off an A*, not 7 ums.

The only possibility is that the 7 ums = 1 mark - which I high;y doubt.

you should check the website of the exam board you did the exam with. and email a teacher to ask about whether you should consider getting it remarked, either way if its the case youre still a mark off so itd be up to you if you wanted to get a unit remarked
the ums adds up to 263. that's what you got.

If 180/200 was an A* your UMS was 149/180. That's 21 UMS marks off 180/200.

As 90+59=149/180. This is 1 mark off an A, due to your unit 4 being only a C.

Your other result was 114/120. Which would be an A* as 108/120 is that boundary.

if 270 is an A* = 180 marks; I got 179 marks,
does this mean I am 1 mark off an A*

No, as the grade boundaries change each year

Which board? AQA?

Unit 3 and 4 being added together.

149+114=263/300. So yes it is 7ums away.

UMS stays the same every year.

On different years, the same number of marks equates to a different number of UMS marks, and there is also a difference between different papers.

My raw marks are as follows:

U1= 37/40
U2 =38/40
U3= 60/60
U4=44/60

Grade boundaries for A* are:
U1= 36
U2= 37
U3 = 53
U4 = 54

However my UMS score causes the confusion : it is 263, 7 ums away from A*. SO how can 1 mark equate to 7 ums

Because having 60/60 isn't the only way to achieve 100% UMS, sometimes it's about 95%-100% raw marks to achieve 100% UMS. As the UMS is capped at below the maximum raw mark or the same. Does that make sense now? Sorry my previous answer was wrong.

So effectively by going over the cap it doesn't really help as you 'lose marks to your total' almost. Unless you know the cap it'll be hard to determine. Sometimes 100% raw marks is the only way to achieve 100% UMS, but at other times it isn't.

An example might be that 90/90 UMS=58/59/60. Have a check on your UMS converter.

The marks needed for A* differ each year, they don't mention it on the website.

In your case you were 7ums away from A* which is 2/3 marks extra in U4. Each exam coverts differently.

The calculation done is not linear, i.e each mark does not equal a fixed ums, rather it is cumulative and changes.

I am so sorry for further confusion. According to your calculations do you think I am 1 mark from an A*

No, you will be more than 1 mark away.

This is because added up your raw total is indeed 179/200. However, it it the UMS total, that the boundaries are set, not the raw marks. It's odd, but when you achieve full marks, it can have the same value as achieving 99%, this is due to how well people have done, for instance if it's a bad year 90% raw marks may infact=100% ums marks.

Try typing in 89/90 raw mark, does it come back with 100% ums? Keep doing it until it doesn't. For the one you got 90/90 on.
