Hey, I'll be joining UoM on the 21st September to study Pharmacy inshaAllah  I was wondering if you know any places of accommodation that I could stay with other Muslim girls. Also about Freshers week, does the ISOC at UoM hold anything for Freshers?

JazaakiAllaahu khayran

Hi, try Hartley Halls they are a private accommodation. They have strict rules such as no mixing and no drinking alcohol which is perfect for any orthodox Muslim.

I attended open days that were held for university accommodation and they were rank! I also wanted to live with females however they told me that you are most likely to be thrown in with mix gender(something which I wasn't keen on), thus I chose Hartley Halls.

Assalamualilum everyone! I'll be joining this September in Sha Allah if I get my visa ( im from Pakistan) to study BA Economics and philosophy. I got Whitworth park as accommodation so a little worried about the environment but I'll deal with it  what im most worried about though is the fresher's week cuz it seems drinking and clubbing is what mostly people will do and im not into that sort of thing so will socialising become difficult?

W/S, yeah I was worried about that too. So I'm just going to join the Pak society and Islamic society hopefully they'll have some events on.
For those worried about what there will be to do that doesn't involve drinking, the Student Union has a guide for all the Welcome Week events here.

Hey, yeh my friend living in Manchester told me about Hartley Halls as well thanks, so I applied there a few days ago. But the guy who runs it told me there's a short waiting list atm so I hope by the time uni starts there'll actually be a place inshaAllah. If not I'll have to figure something else out. :/

salaams sarah - first off Id like to say congratulations for getting into UoM to study Pharmacy this september! MashaAllah
In terms of accommodation for single females, i would suggest you have a closer look at St.Gabriels hall - one of my muslims friends stayed there last yr for her accommodation. If you can, try and get an en-suite room so you don't have to share a bathroom with others.
Secondly, regarding freshers week - our ISOC does lots of early yr socials so that new students can get to know each other - this is all segregated  Last yr we had a bowling social, a dinner and they also had a mount snowden challenge in november. Make sure you have a look at the fb page so you can keep up to date with all the relevant info of the ISOC.
If you have any issues or questions about UoM just PM,
Alia

Salaams, jazakallah khair!! Yeh I looked in to St Gabriels thank you, and also this private accommodation place called Hartley Halls which seems really good too alhamdulilah, so just waiting now to see if there are any spaces inshaAllah!
Those events sound really good, so it's definitely worth coming for freshers then right? Also do you know by any chance when uni actually officially starts, in terms of lectures and stuff?
Thank you again!
Sarah

Welcome Week starts on the 21st of September and lectures start a week later on the 28th. Even if you're not participating in any of the welcome activities, you'll still need to be there for the first week as your school will most likely have things like induction meetings that you'll need to attend.
Ok yeh that makes sense, thank you!
Btw what course are you all gonna be in InshaAllah?

If I were you I'd apply for university halls as a back up plan. St Gabriel's is all female, offers halal food and is usually undersubscribed, so you might still get a place.

Ahh don't worry you'll make friends in no time especially with your flatmates as they'll most likely be in the same situation as you!
