Why are British youth so right wing?

The only surprisingly consistent right-wing view held by students at my school was their support for the death penalty. It freaked me out when I first realised it, I thought we'd moved on from that like we did from voteless women and slavery...

People have no compassion for refugees and migrants in need. You think they'll have compassion for murderers and rapists?

Point taken.
From my experience, the majority of younger people are very left wing
partly because of mass immigration affects young people more

Students are generally left wing. In my old school and college, anyone who had right wing views were branded as racists and bigots constantly by the leftys
the political consensus has been shifted to the right, particularly since Blair
Jeremy Corbyn is the only one to challenge it, and hopefully introduce people to the real alternatives
People's views aren't ironic just because you say they are and want to stick labels on them lol.

Anyway its cus of the moosloms. And mass immigration of low skilled workers leading to no jobs for young people.

Personally I have always found England to be a very nationalistic country, probably the most in western Europe. While I am not sure that I believe that the younger generations are more racist, I certainly think they are more right-wing. That being said though, England as a whole is a right-wing country.

nationalism =/= racism, or else scotland is the most racist country this side of europe

youth are not that right wing, most of us are pretty central its just that allot of public opinions have drifted so far to the left on certain issues anyone even remotely close to the centre appears super right wing

Like just go to any university or on any forum, the white youth, they are so racist and nationalistic unlike the older generation in England. Ironically though they may be vegetarian while supporting the genocide of non white humans, their deportation or race/religious based discrimination.

When you claim that they are racists, you just say that you are racist yourself. Besides in your situation - exactly you're a racist, cause you claim that great number of other people of the stipulated nationality are racists.
If you're not white, it doesn't mean that you can't be racist yourself.

What's funny is students are often the complete opposite

Not so much these days. There has been a clear shift in the political sensibilities of the latest generations to the right; a hangover from the dog-eat-dog Thatcher years.

Nope. Every youth and his youthly dog are more socially liberal nowadays, that is not very Thatcher.

Most people are not aware enough to be on any kind of political economic scale. They just sort of go with the flow. I'd say there is a bit of an even split between right and left on this regard among the 'politically aware'.

To quote that lefty Iain M Banks

"
Until then, I'd only ever voted Labour. After Blair did the same trick with the Labour party that Thatcher had turned with the Tories, I never voted Labour again. I voted Green, Scottish Socialist party, Lib Dem or SNP, mostly as protest votes, but, gradually and with rather more hope increasingly for the SNP. Not because I was particularly nationalistic like a lot of people on the left I've always been suspicious of the populist, divisive appeal of nationalism but because the SNP's policies were more progressive, more left wing, more fair, in the end, compared to any other party with a realistic chance of achieving power. Labour stopped being Labour, so I became a pragmatic voter for the SNP.

These days, I support the idea of an independent Scotland. It's with a heavy heart in some ways; I think I'd still sacrifice an independent Scotland for a socialist UK, but… I can't really see that happening. What I can imagine is England continuing to turn to the right and eventually leaving the EU altogether."

It's not really nationalism as apposed to the democratic right to self determination.

Would be interesting to see what he would have made of Corbyn and the SNP landslide

You're misunderstanding what I'm saying; there has been a shift further right. Whereas before the youth were left of centre, now the majority identify themselves as centre.

Politics is evidently more complicated than that. Thatcher didn't stand for gay marriage and all that jazz.

That seems like a bit of a non sequitur.

Well it's obvious that you can't label our generation as pure Thatcherites considering how liberal we are with social issues (on average).
I hate it when the racists want to stop the immigrants from coming in and would rather watch them die! :frown:

..and stuff like cutting people's hands off for stealing

death penalty seems to have a consistent 50/50 split in opinion among entire population.
