A car accelerates...

A car accelerates uniformly from 5m/s to 20m/s over a distance of 500m.
a. How long does this take?
b. What is the car's acceleration?


Can somebody help me on this? A-Level Physics has been blessed to me with a bad teacher who's not very good at explaining things. Either that or I'm just stupid.

Please help?

first one use s = ut + 1/2 at^2

second one use v = u + at

Okay, yes, I've tried this.

I say tried, but I kinda need it explaining to me because I'm in need of help and I'm shameless.

If I need t - and to get t I need a - how would I go about this using the formula?

Because to get a I need t, or so I can tell.

Am I just being stupid?

My bad, I meant v^2 = u^2 + 2as for the first one!

This is kinda a bad question because you have to do part b first in order to work out part a.

Basically you have two unknowns, you need to find an equation where you know everything apart from one unkown (hence v^2 = u^2 + 2as)
