Is Paedophilla always wrong? Should it be legalised?

Hi, sorry! I received quite a lot of responses on this thread so it was hard for me to see every one. I understand you weren't disagreeing with me, I never had an issue with anything you said.

It was more so the people who were trying to tell me it was 'natural thoughts' that made me angry. I hold no grudges against you

I'm actually losing faith in humanity being on the internet and reading these questions and opinions.
No matter if you support homosexuality or not, at least two adult men/two adult women are choosing to sleep together and not being forced into something which they don't wish to do. Asexuals also are choosing to not persue something that they don't want to do either. But peodophiles finding children attractive is just sick and disgusting, and i don't understand how it can be questionable and not make you want to vom. Children aren't sexually mature and they don't want to be having sex. So for them to be viewed in a crude way is just disgusting and not respecting them, and to act on it is rape, as it is against their will. So yeah definitely something that should be made legal, great idea.

So many Ian Watkin fans on this thread.

So glad you agree.... I previously said this. But everyone seemed to think I was mad, this is why pedophilia is becoming so common, because of people like this who consider it to be normal. Makes me mad.

I totally understand when people hold this opinion but you can't really lock someone up because of their sexual desires can you? People are allowed to have sexual desires/attractions no matter how sick or twisted you think it is. Rather than demonising these people who are sexually attracted to children why don't we try to help them overcome this serious mental issue? You'll find that most paedophiles are honestly seeking for help though they can never find any because of the stigma and would never do anything to actually physically harm a child as they are aware abuse is wrong despite the attraction they feel towards said children.
It'll also interest you to hear that most child sexual abusers aren't even attracted to children at all (hence not paedophiles) but just psychotic and enjoy dominance and power .

No one is saying paedophilia should be legal because it's not even possible to legalise or illegalise thoughts and desires.
Child sexual abuse is very illegal though and very disgusting

I'm not aan"ian watkin fan" I don't know who he is. Just make your point, or actually, dont bother; I'll never agree with someone who thinks that peadophilia is anything less an immoral and disgusting.

Eh?? I was agreeing with your previous comment though.

Please try to put your head on straight. We are not talking about adults being attracted to children, we are talking about adults having a sexual attraction to children. This is inherently harmful and should be considered a mental illness. People who have such desires should be seeking professional psychiatric help.

Try the Oxford definition once again:

Here's the definition of "-phila":

I think it's clear enough that abnormal and undue inclinations are not considered within the bounds of normality.

If you go back to the definition of paedophilia the key word is "directed", which I think again has a reasonably straightforward and simple meaning:

Clearly this means not just thoughts, but actions too.

Please do stop telling us that you have some superior understanding of what are terms that most people understand in a completely different way to you.

I'm actually losing faith in humanity reading these opinions; why do people (or you, more forthcomingly) keep failing to make the distinction between sexual attractions (paedophilia in this case) and sexual behaviour?

It's not inherently harmful to children, but just to the people who have it. It's inherently harmful to the paedophiles themselves, because it is present, the desire, but not to children, because they can abstain, and I'm sure most often do.

Yes I would consider it a mental illness, for the reason that it would negatively affect their day to day lives. And they should have the option for help, fully confidential, but there's no moral obligation to.

Paedophilia means the sexual attraction towards prepubescent children, nothing else. No behaviour, nothing.
You can call me a teleiophile if you want; the sexual attraction to mature adults. Does that mean behaviour also? No.

What has normality got to do with any of this?

Fortunately for us, and unfortunately for you, we do have a superior understanding. Most people don't understand what it means, because they have created their own definition a lot by association with something else.

You can't to my understanding make paedophilia more common in that sense, as I don't think socialisation plays a (large) factor in determining sexual attractions.

And of course paedophilia is not normal, as normal is a quality mostly dictated by majority.

Its a mental illness but it seems in our country people are so ignorant and brain dead they think they can beat the disability out of a person lol.

Trust me, I often feel like I could punch someone, usually when I get a rude customer at work. But NEVER have I thought of abusing children like that! there is a HUGE difference between the two, I'm sorry but I can't even understand what you are saying here? trust me, I am very understanding during debates/arguments, whatever you want to call it... but come on. Listen to what you're saying here.

Thinking about punching someone is a natural feeling, I sometimes think I could punch my best friend in the face when we spend too much time together, but that doesn't make me weird.

Having sexual thoughts about children is messed up, and disturbing. Anger is a natural feeling, we all feel it. Not everyone has sexual thoughts about children unless they are mentally unstable.

What else?

The thing is, people can't help who they are attracted to which is what pedophilia is. Attraction is not something you can control. I can't help that I'm attracted to men, some people can't help that they are attracted to a particular race.

Obviously, a pedophile acting out his or her desires is wrong but as a society we need to start offering rehabilitation to those who are brave enough to seek it. I think it's important to note that we actually don't know how many pedophiles there are out there who don't act upon their desires, because if someone was to admit to being attracted to children they would be ostracised.

This x 10000000^10000.

**** me, some people on this thread are so stubbornly stupid.
If this is the case then the behaviour is perfectly fine ... but if it goes to abuse then it really troubles.

What? Normally what is made illegal is something deemed wrong.

Understand what "phile" is. You're defining the social use, not actual meaning.

Don't even know where to start :frown:
If it's legal then it's basically telling people it's ok. For example, whys it illegal to steal, take drugs, murder, etc? Because it's wrong. Simple.

If nun of those would be legalised then neither should this sick twisted kind of behaviour.

You're still ignoring the fact that the thoughts are already legal, and you haven't provided a reason that the thoughts should be illegal or are indeed wrong or even harmful to anyone other than the person having them - a harm that is made worse by views like yours.
