Can you use a railcard on a travel/oyster card

Can you use a 16-25 railcard on; an Oyster card, or; on a weekly or monthly travel card?

I have a 10 week internship in central London next summer and I am trying to plan the cheapest way to commute. I believe I will only need zone 1-2 so judging by this https://tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/tube-dlr-lo-adult-fares.pdf it will cost £311 for the travel card(2 monthly and 2 weekly) or £321 for the Oyster card(10 weekly passes). Are these the two cheapest options there is? And could I use my 16-25 rail card on any of these?

Either which way you'll have to get an Oyster card. Your best bet is to get 2 month and 2 week travelcards put on your Oyster. You can attach your 16-25 railcard to your Oyster but that's only to get discounts on single fares.

What do you mean put it on an Oyster card and why?

I see so if I was to get two singles (one to go and one to return) £2.90 each it would come to £4 a day so £20 a week (provided I don't work weekends) so £200 for the entire 10 weeks which sounds a lot cheaper! But with the travel card I can do multiple journeys a day can't I? And with the oyster weekly I can do multiple journeys a day as well right?
All travel in London requires either a paper ticket, a contactless card or an Oyster card. So you get an Oyster (£5 refundable deposit), go to the ticket office (or online), buy a travelcard and apply it to that Oyster and then your Oyster is your ticket. Travelcards give you unlimited travel in the zones they're for on buses and the tube. With pay as you go there is a daily cap on your spend but it can still quickly add up if you plan to socialise or have to travel for work/take alternative routes to work.

I doubt a railcard discount would be of much use to you, as it only applies to off peak travel- so 9:30-4 and after 7. I assume as you are doing an internship you will need to commute at peak times which = no railcard discount on the tube.

Ohh I see okay thank you! So once I reach the £6 daily cap I can travel anywhere without any further costs?

Ah damn! I am not sure what my hours would be when I finish but I think it will be fairly late as its in banking and I expect hours to be long

So what would be the cheapest way to travel around London?

If you were to finish after 7 you'd get a 30% reduction on the pay as you go fare for that journey
Sorry I didn't know that the railcard discounts only apply to off peak single fares. Here's some info about peak and off peak hours:

Peak fares apply Monday to Friday (not on public holidays) from 06:30 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00

Off-peak fares apply at all other times and if you travel from a station outside Zone 1 to a station in Zone 1 between 16:00 and 19:00, Mondays to Fridays

Here's also some info about capping:

Will you still be a student? You can get 16+/18+ student Oysters which apply a discount eg. It's £15 for a week bus pass instead of £20 (which you load onto your Oyster) - you can't use your railcard, that's just for 'national' rail travel, not TFL. You could use it for like, overground trains but not tube/buses.

Where are you going to be travelling to/from? It might actually be walking distance meaning you could just walk to and from work, and put £20 on an Oyster for when you want to go out for fun on the weekends.

Yes you can. Even on a student oyster.

Go to the ticket office and say you'd like to put your railcard onto your oyster. They will. Then you'll be able to have the railcard discount (on off peak journeys) and the 18+ discount for being a student. (and don't worry, you'll be given your railcard back which you can use on other non-tube journeys)

This means that it'll take longer to reach the £6 cap so you might not have to reach it depending on how much you plan on travelling around.

I stand corrected! I assumed the 18+ was the alternative since it already has a discount.

Again though, most places are walking distance from one another, so it's worth checking before spending money on travel.
I think you have to be a London uni student to get an 18+ oyster card because the uni has to certify that you are a currently enrolled student and travel in London to study.

I come with proof if anyone wants it:

With your Railcard you can get 1/3 off a London Zones 1-6 Off-Peak Day Travelcard (subject to a minimum fare which is currently £5.30) and an Anytime Day Travelcard when bought as part of your journey to London from outside London Zones 1-9 (subject to a minimum fare which is currently £17.00).

With an Oyster card, you can get your Railcard discount loaded onto your Oyster card to save 1/3 on single off-peak pay as you go fares on London Underground and Docklands Light Railway services in London. You will need to have registered your Oyster in your name to do this. Simply take your Oyster card and valid Railcard to a London Underground station ticket office.

I was amazed and annoyed when I found out two years late
