Can you use a railcard on a travel/oyster card

Either which way you'll have to get an Oyster card. Your best bet is to get 2 month and 2 week travelcards put on your Oyster. You can attach your 16-25 railcard to your Oyster but that's only to get discounts on single fares.

I have a 10 week internship in central London next summer and I am trying to plan the cheapest way to commute. I believe I will only need zone 1-2 so judging by this https://tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/tube-dlr-lo-adult-fares.pdf it will cost £311 for the travel card(2 monthly and 2 weekly) or £321 for the Oyster card(10 weekly passes). Are these the two cheapest options there is? And could I use my 16-25 rail card on any of these?

All travel in London requires either a paper ticket, a contactless card or an Oyster card. So you get an Oyster (£5 refundable deposit), go to the ticket office (or online), buy a travelcard and apply it to that Oyster and then your Oyster is your ticket. Travelcards give you unlimited travel in the zones they're for on buses and the tube. With pay as you go there is a daily cap on your spend but it can still quickly add up if you plan to socialise or have to travel for work/take alternative routes to work.

I doubt a railcard discount would be of much use to you, as it only applies to off peak travel- so 9:30-4 and after 7. I assume as you are doing an internship you will need to commute at peak times which = no railcard discount on the tube.

Ah damn! I am not sure what my hours would be when I finish but I think it will be fairly late as its in banking and I expect hours to be long

Yes you can. Even on a student oyster.

Go to the ticket office and say you'd like to put your railcard onto your oyster. They will. Then you'll be able to have the railcard discount (on off peak journeys) and the 18+ discount for being a student. (and don't worry, you'll be given your railcard back which you can use on other non-tube journeys)

This means that it'll take longer to reach the £6 cap so you might not have to reach it depending on how much you plan on travelling around.

I stand corrected! I assumed the 18+ was the alternative since it already has a discount.

Again though, most places are walking distance from one another, so it's worth checking before spending money on travel.

With your Railcard you can get 1/3 off a London Zones 1-6 Off-Peak Day Travelcard (subject to a minimum fare which is currently £5.30) and an Anytime Day Travelcard when bought as part of your journey to London from outside London Zones 1-9 (subject to a minimum fare which is currently £17.00).

With an Oyster card, you can get your Railcard discount loaded onto your Oyster card to save 1/3 on single off-peak pay as you go fares on London Underground and Docklands Light Railway services in London. I think you have to be a London uni student to get an 18+ oyster card because the uni has to certify that you are a currently enrolled student and travel in London to study.
