You don't want to do things with him that you'll regret in the future. If you told your parents or any of your family member about him, do you really think they would be happy? He's old enough to be your dad

I'm 18 and my mum's not even 42, the oldest I'd feel comfortable dating is late 20's so you have to question why someone in their 40's is interested in an 18 year old

Or he just genuinely likes her and sees her as the consenting adult that she is. A persons age has nothing to do with how abusive or controlling they might be. I could argue that it could be seen as the other way round. That because he is older and more controlled he has more experience in dealing with his emotion therefor less likely to strike out in anger etc. I'm not saying I think this is necessarily true, just that you can't make assumptions based on age.

Personality and maturity isnt always due to age. Just because she is 18 doesn't mean that he sees her as being childish. And without knowing her as a person how can we know that she would put up with being controlled anyway.

Personally I wouldn't date someone that much older but it does happen and if you make each other happy then that's all that matters. If your family loves you they should accept it wether they agree with it or not.
