Sent my application for PPE at Merton two hours ago. I am nervous.
Applying from Germany.

I am also German and applying to Merton for PPE. :-) Darf ich fragen, was du so für Abifächer und Noten hast? Ich habe keine Ahnung, wie streng die mit dem Abitur sind. (Kannst mir auch gerne eine private Nachricht schreiben :-) )

Painful stuff. </3 Just hoping I at least get an interview!

RIP Essays. It's all good, I got my beans crossed for you!
To people applying for physics, is anyone doing STEP?
Does anybody know whether handing out offers fairly quick (like Warwick does - or a bit slower) is commonplace?

I'm pretty sure offers go out on the 6th of January

If they're applying now, then they're applying for entry in October 2016 so second term would start in January 2017?

Just sent off my UCAS for BA Oriental Studies. Do you get some sort of confirmation email from Oxford (St John's) and how do I send in my essays?

I'm applying to St John's for Oriental Studies too (but Japanese)

Hey! God willing I'll see you at interview then!
What A-levels or equiv are you doing?

With the exception of Oxbridge, LNAT/UKCAT/BMAT unis and LSE, most unis will give out offers on a "rolling system", so as soon as applications start. Thus why it's best to apply early - you'll have less competition

It is worth noting that some wait until January for some courses i.e. York and History, but science offers are the first to go out usually.

Anyone applying for English?

Yep! Which college are you applying to?

Does this age limit also apply to other courses?
I will be 17 when I start studying (I turn 18 in the following January so I thought it would not be such a big deal)
I am applying for PPE and I am also an international student.

17 turning 18, is rather different to 15 turning 16.

Where? Oxford or elsewhere? Oxford has a set date for all offers. Elsewhere varies hugely and different courses at the same uni can vary too. But Durham, for example, can be very slow.

Everyone gets a minimum of 2 interviews - one with college tutors and one with course tutors (I THINK that's correct, please correct me if that's not totally right!) but it's common for people to get extra interviews at other colleges if they feel you are Oxford material but would better suit a different college.
From what I heard on the Open Day, mostly everyone over 21 gets an interview at HM because they specialise in mature students and so have particular facilities specific and appropriate to their needs that the other colleges might not.

@BrasenoseAdm can probably correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm FAIRLY sure of this.

Candidates invited to interview can expect to be interviewed at least twice. These interviews may both be in the same college or they may be in two different colleges depending on the course applied for. Applicants for joint degrees tend to have more interviews than those applying for single subjects.

If you make an Open Application and are aged 21 or over (and are a mature applicant), it is very likely you will be allocated to Harris Manchester because Harris specialises in mature students. If you are aged 21 or over and make a direct application to any other college, we think that the usual reallocation mechanisms apply and that age is not a factor.

Suitability for a particular college is NOT a selection or a reallocation criterion. Second or third college interviews form part of the academic assessment of candidates.

There we go! Thank you very much for that!

No problem - happy to help.

We edited the posting and would like to repeat the additional point here:

"Suitability for a particular college is NOT a selection or a reallocation criterion. Second or third college interviews form part of the academic assessment of candidates."

It is absolutely not the case that colleges are looking for particular social or personality types. The only criterion by which candidates are judged is academic potential.

If you're taking 6 subjects to A2, will Oxford likely to give a 6A level offer?
