Conscription UK people(Poll)

Poll

Would you be conscripted if war broke out?

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/469784/Britain-conscription-Russia-World-War-Three-Syria

Ok so ignore the hyperbole. Im not subscribing to the actual sensationalist piece but it did get me thinking if hypothetically it did happen, would I refuse to be conscripted?

Assuming the punishment is in line with USA
In the US evading the draft carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and/or a fine of $250,000 (£164,000).All men in the States over 18 have to sign up for a military service that could be activated at any moment.

Would you refuse or not?

At the risk of sounding edgy, I don't really see what's worth defending anymore. I wish I felt more patriotic, but there doesn't seem much to be patriotic about.

Good response, cast your vote good sir and take a seat
Depends on the war, for example....
WW1 I like to think I would have had the strength of character to take the white feather and refuse. Having said that I can see why millions of young men didn't.

WW2 I certainly would have happily fought.

Not a chance. Forcing soldiers to fight for freedom?! Ha! How ironic. Even if I believed in the war I was fighting I would refuse to fight if drafted. I'd only ever fight of my own free will if it was for an idea or country I believed in.

I'm getting up there so I'd be in Warmington-on-Sea Home Guard  Parade on Tuesday nights in the church hall followed by bingo. Doesn't sound so bad!

Undecided.

Would depend who the enemy were and why it would be in my self interest.

Waste of resources. Forcing someone to fight is pointless. If they dont believe in the cause then morale would be low and a motivated enemy would crush them with ease.

C'mon. The UK isn't heaven on earth but are you really saying you'd do nothing if the country was at war because the UK is so dreadful that life under a foreign occupier would be preferable?

I understand that you're not a flag waving patriot and I understand that you wouldn't want to fight a war in some foreign land. But to say that there's nothing worth defending is a bit much.

If the situation occurred, the event would probably unify the people against the enemy, so realistically, I might fight. But the English people, to me they are very meek. The government walks all over us and spit on old election promises and we just let it happen. It's disheartening seeing them do what they want to the country as "representatives" of the people without representing.
Would never fight for a country when I have friends all over the world. It would basically be me murdering my friends because David Cameron said so.
What about women what do we do? :battle:

Agreed. But the political establishment seem to do pretty much whatever they want regardless of which country you live in.

You have to grow vegetables in allotments and send them out to "Our Brave Boys in the Front Line" And work on the farms and in munitions factories. Or drive a ambulance like the Queen did.
Conscription isn't a choice...

If I it had been ww1 I would have been one of those internationalist socialists and refused to fight. :colonhash:

That's why you shoot anyone that doesn't obey command. Make sure they are more scared of their leaders than they are of the enemy. They will go over the top if they face certain death behind them compared to probably death in front of them.

How are people so ignorant of how war works :-/
