Help with this question.

I'm a bit stuck on this MAT question.

Here is my working.

I got the right answer however I think it was by chance and not because I did it correctly. Please help!

as most of us do not have intuitive/working experience in the transformation y=f(x2) form the equation of the curve between -1 and 1

then replace x by x2 -1 and then it will be obvious

I understand how you could let f(x) = -|x| +1 and therefore f(x^2 -1) = -|x^2 -1| + 1, however this test only includes C1 - 2 content so using C3 feels like cheating. The mark scheme has a different way of doing it however I don't really understand it.

Thanks TeeEm!

EDIT: Maybe you could make to separate equations for f(x) between 1 to 0 and 0 to -1?

Fair enough.

(I thought maths is maths. I guess Maths did not know that this is C3, but next time I see maths I will let maths know.)

Do you understand the solution in the mark scheme (the one I linked)? Doesn't make sense to me.

I did not look at it as I am doing work at the moment and occasionally I look into the room. I will take a look in a while if no-one else looks because I am in the middle of painful algebra
