How do i do these? simultaneous equations

Let me just start with, I do not require the answer. I simply require some help as to how i would approach this question. Simply put, I need to know the methods and steps.

1. Solve the simulataneous equations x + 2y = -1 AND x^2 + y^2 = 13

Substitute the linear equation into the other one somehow.

Make x the subject of one (e.g have just x on the left hand side) then sub the equation (right hand side - with no x) into all the x values offered in the second equation, which will let you have just y as a letter to find.

Find y, then sub its value back into the formula you put equal to x at the start, letting you find the value of x as well.
