Need a Gaming PC

Need a gaming computer, will buy from ebay or any UK sellers. I have a £300 budget so anything around that much or cheaper is the best price range. Please help me pick best pc for that price range, that can play most pc games thanks.

The fact that they're not mentioning the exact graphics card pretty much sums up that you shouldn't buy it. There's loads of eBay sellers that will sell "super fast gaming desktop!" with an overclocked processor and loads of RAM, but use a horrible GPU that will mean the whole thing sucks for gaming. Make sure whatever you're looking at has a graphics card with GDDR5 graphics, ideally from the last three years.

Having a quick look, this one looks alright for a little under your budget.

Provided you don't need constant 60fps it should handle most games on the market at 1080p, at better than low settings in the majority of cases.

Normally I'd agree, but for £300 with an operating system I'd say opting for something off eBay is probably going to be more economical, or at best with only minuscule savings being possible. I've just quickly thrown together a comparable build to the one I've linked to above on PCPartPicker with the cheapest compatible components in most cases (with a couple of small exceptions, like making sure the PSU is 80+ certified), and the system's gone over £300 before I could even add a graphics card.

I don't need an operating system, as I have my own copy and I have a spare SATA hardrive at home. Anything else in the tower I need.

Ah, in that case it opens up a lot more options as it frees up 20-25% of your budget. Are you willing to build your own computer or do you want something prebuilt?

In my experience custom made is always going to get you more power then prebuilt for the same price, the only downside being you have to put it together.

If I was you I would probably save more to at least around £500.
£300 pc wont let you play any latest game stutter free unless you play it on a 800*600 or 1280*720 all low settings.

Yeah equalling or beating the performance of the current gen consoles is very doable. You're not going to be playing everything on ultra settings of course, but the guy saying that you'll only get low settings at 720p or worse is completely wrong and medium or better settings at 1080p will be achievable on most games.

Anyway, for a fiver over your budget I quickly threw this together:

There's a few changes that I'd strongly recommend making if you don't mind pushing your budget to £350-£360, like moving up a GPU tier to a GTX 960 or R9 380, and changing from a case/PSU combo to a separate case (with more fan slots) and an 80+ rated power supply- both of which will potentially help extend the life of your system either by keeping the internals in good condition or just by not being at risk of frying anything. If that little bit of extra cash is within your reach, definitely make those changes.

To put it bluntly, you won't get get a decent pc for £300, don't make your own build as it will be more expensive, plus one of the reasons you build yourself is to avoid performance issues with low quality goods, but if your goods are cheap anyway the performance line is very small anyway. Personally, you don't "need" a gaming pc as you say, well you might think you do 😉. However, just a little anecdote, I saved up two years worth of Christmas money and birthday money to build my machine and it was well worth it, I can play any games on high settings and it won't need updating in ages. Just some final notes, price for performance atm for PCs is between £550 to £900 so you'd be better to save. You keep mentioning battlefield and COD, if that's all your out to play, but a fcking gaming console. Finally I found this for you price range, not to bad, you wouldn't have to build it and it's free delivery

It's going to be disheartening with all these comments that you don't want to hear but to be honest they are the truth. The problem these days is that technology moves way to quick and what was top of the range in 6 months won't be. Because of this your build will never be up to date. The biggest problem with the low end PC's is that right now all new kinds of high demand games are coming out, like you've said you want to play battlefield, for a build for the price you want you would be spending more time lagging than playing.

Furthermore i disagree with most previous comments, with a budget of your size if you were going to go ahead with buying one it would probably be better to buy it pre-built, but when you get around £500 that's when you can start buying your own parts. Make sure in any of your builds your GPU (Graphic processing unit) is the part of the highest quality, additionally don't bottleneck it with other **** components but for gaming it's highly important. Also, remember to get a sufficient PSU otherwise you'll find your PC won't last long! Also, for me personally the peripherals i have were equally important to the PC when playing games, between my monitor, mouse, keyboard and headset I've paid £400 so just take into consideration that, playing with a £10 mouse is horrible!

Sorry to keep it so long, but to conclude; I wouldn't buy one just yet, not sure on your age but if you do, can't you wait till Christmas for Christmas money? If you are abit to old for that just waiting a little longer will be so much more worth it in the long run. Lastly, use a website called Overclockers the people on there a superb with this stuff and many are trying to get rid of their 'old' PC's which would be in your price range but out perform all new PC's you would buy. Sorry to keep it long winded, but hope i helped!

GTX 970 which is the recommended graphics card for battlefront is around £200. You aren't going to get a decent gaming PC for £300 considering new games.

For £300 you could probably get something as good as an xbox. The good thing with PCs is generally the more you spend the faster the performance scales up.

I'd personally use that £300 on a graphics card. I spent about £350-75 on my GPU over the spring / summer, and now the price has dropped to about £275 for an Asus 970 at Currys.

Do you want to upgrade or are you looking for a PC that you hope to keep for a few years and buy a new next time?

Also, have you considered building it yourself? It's not that hard but for your first time it's a lot of stress if you're crapping yourself that the parts are in the wrong places / broken.
