Please be trolling.It's called the cold war because the USSR and USA never fought each other directly (a hot /active conflict) but instead confronted each other through proxy wars,stand offs,arms races etc,we call it a cold war.

Cold is a metaphor for indirect. The two belligerent powers (USA and Russia) did not fight directly, hence the name cold.
The USA and Russia share a border inside the Arctic Circle, and it's cold there.
