The Student Room Group

Probe announced following altercation between police officer and student in the US.

I'm sure hundreds will have already sided with the (black) student what with all "police brutality" hanging around... but the fact is, we haven't got the full story yet.

She was asked to leave several times (for reasons unknown), she didn't comply and was removed, somewhat aggressively, by the police officer.

Seemed a bit on the violent side but we don't have context. If she's constantly refused to get up, and the officer had tried to get her up more gently, what was he supposed to do? She can't be allowed to stay there.

Doesn't everyone know that if a police officer tells you to move, and you refuse, you're going to be moved? Especially in the States. Seems a bit of a fuss over not much to be honest.

What a stupid sentence.

There's a concept known as 'reasonable force'. Unless the girl attacked the police officer I see no reason for him throw her about like that (also pretty sure the headlock would be against regulation too). He had the size advantage which would have made escorting her out without assaulting her pretty easy.

Guess he wanted to prove something.

Well, had she resisted? She'd certainly been asked to move and refused, but we don't know if he'd already tried to remove her with less force.

If not, I think he probably went too far. However, unless she was injured in any kind of lasting way, I still don't think it's a big deal. He was a bit rough but ultimately doing what he was supposed to be doing. Given how many unnecessary police shootings are reported I think this might be a case of misdirected energy.

If we're making assumptions, let's also assume the black girl had a gun, lived in the 'hood' and probably didn't have a father growing up.

Stereotypes go both ways and lead to nothing.

It seems the story is incomplete as these usually are

It looks like after repeated attempts to get the girl to leave the room buy teachers and the principle they called in the police as she was being that disruptive

she failed to comply with the police and as a result was manhandled

No one to blame but themselves it seems

The girl did attack the officer. Watch at the very beginning of the video she assualts him and then he reacts with force

It's excessive force. It's an unarmed, teenage girl. It is unquestionably, undeniably EXCESSIVE force.

The USA is a scary place to be honest. This was making the news this morning too:

http://www.attn.com/stories/3866/no-charges-for-officer-who-killed-zach-hammond

Police officer let off, despite shooting dead an unarmed teenager, whose only offence was smoking marijuana in his car.

There were no stereotypes in my post. Perhaps you should learn to read.

lol where was the attack? I didn't see any? Unless you now qualify putting your hand out to keep someone away as an 'assault'.

Sounds like you'll go to any length to defend the actual assault of an unarmed teenage girl by a supposedly trained police officer.
Would he have done this if he knew he was being filmed? I very much doubt that. That's the mentality a police officer should have. If you're going to do something you wouldn't want the public knowing you did then you shouldn't be doing it.
I don't care what political allegiance you have, you're lying to yourself if you don't think that there is something deeply wrong with American police. They are also very clearly racist.
Police officers would do well to remember that they must use proportional and reasonable force.

Granted all the facts aren't out yet -- and that's why the probe has been launched.
He was lost control and now he is fired.
What retard will try justify what the police did based on the video, atleast use the typical 'theres not enough evidence' excuse.

To make matters worse i hears the kids filming this were fined

How so, the girl wasn't responding to any request to leave the classroom .. if you have to call a police officer it must be very bad .. why should the class have to be kept waiting for one disobedient person ?

Would you not agree that excessive force was used?

They shouldn't. He should have handled it. The way he handled it is what is utterly abhorrent.
