could some explain why 5 gallons equates to 40 pints????

1 gallon = 8 pints
5 x 8 = 40

fyi 1 gallon is 8 pints.:smile:
these are imperial units not metric.

metric units are normally divisible by 10, kilograms, kilometres etc.
imperil units are old fashioned units that divide differently. (but are widely used still, mainly in America) like yard, gallon, pound, ounce, mile.

sooo wat ur saying is metric conversions can be worked out but you have to know facts for imperial conversions...?

Be aware that American measurements and uk measurements may not be the same
Metric started with the idea of one particular measurement and subdivision all following the same format. Even the litre is a kilo of water.

Imperial is more related by physical size
Ie an acre was the amount that a man could plough in a day etc
