Difference between an English and a History Degree?

In the former, you study English; in the latter, you study History.

Do you like old stuff (Chaucer, Shakespeare etc) or really old stuff (pyramids, Stonehenge)?

I like the Middle ages, but I haven't studied Literature that far back before.

With English I find that you can write anything as long as you back it up with evidence but with history you can't really make up dates/events and whatnot.

English Literature equals studying authors, playwrights- non fiction and fiction. You might take a module analysing the historical context of the period or studying books from a particular period but its not the main focus of the degree. History= focusing on certain periods in history & the facts & interpretations. Some source analysis but each source is unlikely to be as long as in English.
