Heriot Watt or Dundee for Computing Science?

Hi ausername3600,

We're really pleased that you are considering studying Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University!

Can I help with your dilemma? What are you considering when choosing your university?

I'm not sure whether or not you have visited Heriot-Watt University but it is set in 380 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Edinburgh. As we are campus-based, everything is in one place. It's a really friendly place to be . Edinburgh city centre is about 30 minutes away by bus. It's a great city - it really comes alive during the Fringe Festival in August and at Christmas.

Our teaching is research-led so is always relevant to the real-world. Academics from our Robotics Lab were recently featured on the BBC News. You can watch videos of this here (really cool!)

In Year 4 of our BSc in Computer Science, you can choose to specialise in Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering or Games Programming. Two hot topics in the Computer Science world at the moment are Data Mining and Computer Network Security (salaries in these areas are huge!) We offer courses in these topics in Year 4 of the programme.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Dundee prides themselves on their applied computing course, and as a current third year student of computer science I must say that it's a lot watered down compared to courses you might find at other universities in terms of the amount of maths you'll end up doing. If you want a CompSci degree but don't want to be drowning in pure maths then I'd say that Dundee is right up your alley!
