Modern war and Singularity (evil all-destroying AI scenarios, basically).

Don't see the point of fearing loneliness or failure. Those are individually defined concepts. If you are scared of failure, just don't look at it as failure but instead a turning point in your life. Similarly, if you're scared of becoming lonely, just manipulate your definition of loneliness. Besides, I'd much rather be meditating alone in my zen garden in the suburbs of Athens than see the entire state of France turn into ground zero.
