Why don't the police just shoot these anarchist idiots with rubber bullets?

One of the protesters punched a woman (a protester who was being peaceful and trying to protect a horse), and someone blinded a horse with a firework

Well OK the system is set up so that in theory if everyone votes in their self-interest the result is the greatest good for the greatest number. Civilisation is about designing systems which neuter, redirect or harness the self-interest of the venal, because we can never convince you otherwise.

However in my mind you shouldn't actively make the decision to vote in your self-interest if you can clearly see your self-interest isn't the same as that of the majority of people, particularly those worse off. Put simply, a poor British family needs that house far more than some pampered Saudi prince and the latter should vote on behalf of the former.

Champagne socialism is by far the most virtuous and most genuine of all the political positions. Mine's a Bollinger!
I think you'd be quite surprised that my interests are in fact generally similar to the average middle-class Brit. But no worries; champagne socialists are known for not understanding the needs of the average voter. Actually, worry, because director's law still very much applies in this day and age.

PS: Don't spend too much on the champagne; I think it's wiser to save the money for a deposit for a home instead! Don't want to make those frivolous expenses...

They'll say it's a one off. Just like the person vandalising the war memorial at the post-election "protest" was a one off. And the people threatening to rape that MP at the Manchester conference thing was a one off. And the people physically attacking journos and MPs at the same event was a one off. And the person dropping a breeze block off the building nearly killing someone at another one I remember was a one off. And all the other countless incidents of violent and disgusting behavior were one offs.

An awful lot of one offs. And not a single bystander reporting the perpetrators? I remember thinking this when the cockroach vandalised the memorial. These people kept on saying "it's just one person - look at how many else were there" and blah blah. Yeah, look at how many were there and saw it. And not a single one did anything about it or reported or IDd the sack of ****.

These people and their apologists who infest this forum don't seem to get it. They and their ilk are making it so that everyone else is turned off from their "message" and their causes. They don't want to be associated with them and they are now persuadable when government and police propose heavy measures. They're pissing on their shoes. How stupid can you be?

These mongs seem to think they're like the Polish and Czechs protesting against communism in the late 1980s (dat irony doe). Completely deluded. They're nothing but a bunch of hipster thugs, cowards and blowhards.

"Police officers formed a barrier against the densely packed protestors, hurling bottles and chanting "Shame on you, we're human too"."

if the Express writer of that had had my English teacher, they'd have been in detention.

Exactly. What exactly is this going to do? Zero. Its not even in response to any piece of legislation, its just leftie thugs.

I am a left winger but so many leftist men who claim to be "feminist" (which I am not) are complete hypocrites and treat women worse than supposedly sexist right wing men, it's hilarious

If you keep treating the proletariat like **** they will come after you. Benefits cut too much too fast, proposed Tax credits cut, NHS waiting to be privatized, rising costs on everything, no rent controls on landlords,

Do you expect people to just roll over and be cool with it?

How can everything be rising in price when we have no inflation?

You seem pretty upset about this: do you ever direct such vitriol at powerful targets? Imagine how you would react if I spoke in similar terms about "bankers" or "tax avoiders".

What is wrong with a trustafarian type - if your ridiculous judgements are accurate - being angered by the injustice they see in our society and going on a protest?

Should we only be concerned about things that affect us? I guess you are a Tory, I know it's hard to understand...

Tax avoiders? People who worked hard for their money? I'd be more concerned with scroungers, those who live-off people's money!

Oh and do you even know what a ****ing banker is?
LOL they aren't anarchists, they're just entitled lefties being violent, which is nothing new. Lefties are quite often prone to violence.

Last I checked wanting no government is anarchy, even though many also want a larger state.

Some of the protestors last night made those at CPC look tame, and who were the worst there: the ones with V masks waving anarchy flags; the very same people who would take any placard they could get their hands on to get closer to people to abuse.

Oh do be quiet. Not all of us "lefties" are violent like the scum in this protest.

This is just ridiculous, everyone that works has works hard for their money, regardless of their income. If they're not working, many are trying very hard to find full-time employment. The rich are much more likely to avoid tax because they can afford lawyers and accountants to their dirty work, so how is this fair? Your average worker pays all their tax, so what you're saying is just idiotic. Facebook paid something between £4000 - £5000 (I don't remember the exact figure) in corporation tax last year, would you say that is just? With your logic it is, since Mark Zuckerberg and all the FB shareholders worked hard for their money.

You really need to get some perspective, because many people that are on benefits don't want to be. Have some empathy.

How is it fair "the rich" not only pay more in tax because its a %, but they even pay a higher %! How is that fair?

It doesn't make that much of a difference to them, and they can live perfectly fine if they pay more tax? However every penny counts to your average worker, especially people that earn below 30K? Especially if you live in the South East. Like I said before, get some perspective and empathy.

These kinds of reasons are exactly why I do not in fact go off on anticapitalist rants about them. Our Swedish friend would do well to extend the same tact and nuance to his idiot excoriations of "Toby and Arabella wearing designer clothes" or whatever it was.

Also please for the love of God stop putting superfluous hyphens in phrasal verbs, for some reason it's really annoying.

The biggest scroungers, of course, are corporations, rentiers, etc. That is what I think of as a scrounger, and rightly so as they cost far more than benefit claimants and give far less back to society, especially if they're property owners.

As a person, for whom English is not a mother tongue, may I ask what is wrong with that sentence?
TIA

Who said anything about fair? This is just what it costs to run a stable society that rich people can cream profits and rents off of. Your sort really need to come back to reality and visit the planet earth once in a while. It's just what it costs. So stop whinging, grow up and pay up. You don't get something for nothing in this world.

ah, so because they are richer government can stole more from them?
and no, there is no duty to live in South East- if one cannot aford to live there, one should move out.

It implies it is the police who were hurling the bottles and shouting that they're humans too, the comma makes it a list of things about the police rather than putting "who were" after the comma to make it a subordinate clause about the protestors

Yes of course, where else are they going to get the money from? I know for rich rentiers it just magically appears in their bank account but the government has to get the money before they can spend it (especially given neoliberal dogma on fiscal rectitude).

OK that's fine as long as you are OK with paying all the SE exiles benefits until the jobs come to them, and with an apocalyptic economic crash in the south east.

Most of the cosseted rich people living in the home counties can hardly tie their shoe laces without help so God knows how they would cope with losing all the service workers, imagine the pearls being clutched from Woking to Wycombe.
