Are private schools worth the ££££?

I think private schools are worth it. They are usually smaller, so there is more contact with the teacher. The schools have parents breathing down their necks, so the teachers will pressurize the students to get good grades. Pupils get extra help with their UCAS applications. There's more opportunity for broadening horizons, like going on trips abroad and having specialist science equipment. A big factor for me personally is that my private school offers Latin, whereas the state school I'd have gone to does not. If I had gone to the state school, I would not have learned latin and so would not be applying for a classics degree this year.

I've been at a grammar school since Year 7 and at the same one even now for Year 12, it doesnt matter what school you go to because if you put in the effort then you'll surely do well in your academic progress and that is evident with people who came from comprehensive schools to my school who got better grades than some of us.
Of course there are other factors but if you are intelligent enough to qualify from grammar school then you will generally do just as well in comprehensive yes.

Well, in my defence you made it quite a task.
The environment is good for grades because they make it out like anything less than all A*s is unacceptable and you'll work harder. But it's not good for your mental or physical health to kill yourself with workload. Depends which is more important to you- grades or health. 
For me it's grades as I figured that I only have a year and a half left of 6th form..which is possibly worth sacrificing for a better 'the rest of my life'. Maybe.

I'll reiterate the other posters point - you went to a grammar school?
not at all in my opinion, they teach the same syllabus and you sit the same exams. sure you might be in a better working environment with better teachers, but with some independent study you should be able to achieve the same or higher results than private school kids.

I've been at a grammar school since Year 7 and at the same one even now for Year 12

Having not passed my 11+ in Year 6 meant I was unable to go to a grammar school. My parents decided it they didn't want me to go to the local community college due to previous bullying and there were no other suitable schools in the area. I also found it hard to concentrate in class and my maths was really poor (I am not dyslexic). I would have really struggled learning in a class of 30, so the only option was to look at private schools. My school is an hours drive away from my house and I take the bus. I auditioned and got the Drama scholarship which gave me 10% off of my fees (to give you a rough estimate, this 10% just about pays for the bus fare). I'm also slowly draining my parents bank account and they are having to dip into their pension because I decided to stay on for Sixth Form (even though I received another scholarship and a bursary, its still really expensive!)
However, I feel that my school has benefited me so much. There are more opportunities and I learnt better in the smaller classes. There were 7 of us in my maths class and I managed to pass my GCSE with a C! I was really pleased with my results and feel that if I had gone anywhere else, I wouldn't have done as well as I did. Now I'm doing A-Levels and I am studying English Literature, Drama and Dance. To give you an idea of class sizes in my Sixth Form, there are 2 of us in my dance class and 6 of us in my drama class. Altogether there are 14 of us doing English Literature altogether but have been split into two classes of 7. This means we can have more support from the teacher and the classroom is less noisy.
They do give us a lot more help and tutoring on UCAS and personal statements, but in the end it's you writing it and not them!
I think private schools are worth the money and I would encourage people to consider it and not think it's just for 'posh' and 'rich' people!

Privates school have money, resources and playing fields!
I think its 32k for harrow and 35k for eton per year. and You can see what they are paying for they have wonderful schools, wonderful teachers and facilities. So we abolish public schools. EVERY CHILD HAS THE SAME RIGHT TO A GOOD EDUCATION, REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH MONEY THEIR PARENTS HAVE.
Personally I do not believe that people send their kids off to "Public Schools" because they are better funded with more competent and experience staff as well as smaller class sizes. Most of the people I know who went to public schools and who want to send their own children to private schools do it for the networking; not the grades.
After university you will start to realize that the degree itself and the grade you obtained means very little at the executive level of big companies. Although your grades and degree will give you better qualifications for the rat race, what will take you out of it is usually the people you know and friends who come from privileged backgrounds.
I know personally several people who got jobs in IB and AM, and then fast tracked into management, stemming from their networks; their friends' relatives and friends.
So yes, I would say that going to a public school would give you a better advantage in life, rubbing shoulders with the scions of CEOs and other executives of big companies, definitely give you an advantage when it comes to the job market. Academic wise... not so much, I would say Grammar schools are better in terms of academic performance.

I went to both a private school and a state school, private is by far a more privileged experience but in terms of better, not really? It isn't really comparable as both can be good and both can be bad

I went to 3 comps, all equally as crap as each other. But fun af.
I go to a selective comp sixth now, which is basically a pseudo- private school (50% of the girls are from private schools and most of these kids can afford to drop out and go to private school), and the atmosphere here is sooooooooooooooooo different.
People want to get on with their work and be involved with school things, absolutely blew my ****ing mind.
The teachers are also all of a much better standard.
But the students are all ****ing weirdos. Idk what it is ,but none of them are down to Earth. The popular students are the really rich ones, which wasn't the case at my old schools. But they all pretend to be chavs anyway, but if they came down to my estate theyd get thrown about.
all in all, no.
