People who don't want kids are lucky.

It really is

Because if you had even an ounce of maturity, you would have altered your views after listening to what others had to say.
I can't afford to go to uni, let alone buy a house :/
[QUOTE=driftawaay;60551089]No one to share life with? Wife/husband/nieces, whatever. And as I said, some of us hope to not live until we are old, anyway! I couldn't even afford to grow old, plastic surgery is too expensive!

But I didn't mean it like 'oh, don't have kids cause you need to buy abigger house', it just randomly occured to me that I wont have to buy a house ever, cause it would be no use to me

I hope the plastic surgery thing was a joke...

I think a lot of people want kids because they're scared of not being alone in later life.
I want kids when I'm older because I'm extremely maternal and I know I'd be good at it. I want a family and I love family life.
Honestly, I struggle to understand why people wouldn't want children. Not to say I think they should want them, just that I can't relate to it in any way- and that's rare for me because I'm hugely empathetic.

Amen to the first sentence! I decided recently that even if I end up alone in later life, I'll still have a child. There are so many ways in which that can be done nowadays without having a partner - I'll be a single mother if I have to. I just want kids. :ninja:

Imagine how depressing it would be for people who never had children, getting to say 50 and just having nobody.

If you had even an ounce of maturity, you would realize that some people have views and goals in life that are diferent than yours. Not everybody is like you.

You are so hopeless, I will just put you on my ignore list now. Bye.

I know right?! That's one of my worries.
That's not to say I want kids just to curb my loneliness because that's not it. But it would be pretty awful reaching that age and being alone. :frown:

Most people's wife/husband and siblings/friends/other family members are still alive when they are fifty though. Even their parents! 50 isn't old, I don't see how you could be alone at 50. It's not like everyone you know in your life start dropping dead when you are middle aged. Plus, if that did happen to somebody, they could still adopt a kid at 50.
The burning desire to gift my genome to future generations overcomes any reservations I have about the financial cost. I'm also looking forward to having my kids and grandkids near me in older age.

I'm having four kids.

You are far too young to actually be worrying though, it's like you are having a quarterly life crisis.

It's more than that, imagine how great it would be watching them grow up, seeing their achievements, friendship just isn't the same.

Maybe I am. But I'm under pressure to start finding a 'suitable' husband so it's natural for me to be worrying.
Not to say I'll be agreeing to marry anyone just for the sake of it...but it just gets me thinking, that's all. Thanks.

I can think of non materialistic ways of using that excess. You could use the excess for charitable good. Or you could just work less. Go 3/4 days a week so you actually have time to enjoy being a human as opposed to being a piece of machinery.

A big problem I have with this debate is that is so geared around the capitalistic lonely society we have created with this obsession with the nuclear family unit being the end all. Even if you never have children of your own you can still help raise children. You may have siblings who have children, you can help with that. You could help at an orphanage, children's hospice or get involved in youth groups. IN this country in the 80s we had fringe mini feminist communal dwellings where single women would help raise up their children together. Society is just so atomised and split up into various divisions of labour that it just crushes a lot of the "natural" human behaviour that isn't just focused around solely looking after and providing your own direct offspring.

I don't particularly fancy the idea of pregnancy and giving birth, but I think I would like to adopt a child. I like the idea of raising a child who didn't have the best start in life.

Orphanages don't really exist anymore. There are some residential children's homes, but generally the staff there are highly specialised because the children there have usually been neglected or abused by their birth parents. They don't usually accept volunteers due to the profile of the children.

People who don't want kids don't have a right to complain about immigration

I've always loved the idea of adopting a child

I'm an immigrant so I wouldn't complain about it anyway :h:

I don't think you can choose whether you want kids or not.

Someone needs to explain to you the child making process. Don't worry you'll learn in good time
