Discuss-are the Tories taking things to far?
To be fair when Brown speaks the sensible world stops listening, but when Major says it as well should we listen?

Interesting article about leaked correspondence between Cameron and is local county council where Cameron is raising concerns about the levels of cuts his local council are having to make. It appears that Cameron is unaware of the effects his policies are having

Interesting article.
It is well known that the current Lib/Lab.Con have no idea. They claim more on travel expenses just to get to work than some peoples' entire salary.

Just look at the background of these lot-the Chancellor of the Exchequer. in charge of the economy, is a Baron. And people think he will do what is best for them? Turkeys voting for Christmas.
Major and John Bercow are two of the only tories I have any sort of positive feelings for.
I don't mind actual 'one nation conservatism' that much, what I hate is the current right wing, ultra free market, public secor and welfare-hating conservatism disguised as 'centrist'.

If Gordon Brown told you the Earth is not flat would you insist otherwise?

If Gordon Brown, the man who plugned the working class in particular into great difficulty through;
mass immigration
deregulation of banks and the directly linked great crash
housing prices soaring
following the new Labour Blair policy of being against state ownership (wuth a huge rise in rail prices and energy prices as a result)
allowing Amazon, Starbucks etc to get offwith no tax whilst taxing the working and middle class to make up for the rich not paying
I could go on.

If this man wants to talk about the needs of the poor then forgive me but I am not too interested in hearing it.

But please, continue with your ridiculous "if the world was flat" comment. If Brown said the world was flat he would have no evidence for it. When I say I am ignoring his views on the needs of the working class or even the country as a whole there is plenty of reasons for it by comparison.

You're trolling is so obvious:biggrin: You honestly think that saying Gordon Brown is a bit clueless on the needs of the working class is as foolish as saying the world is flat? Troll.

The core reasoning behind the Third Way approach was to let the financial sector do it';s neoliberal thing, tax it a bit and use that to fund welfare programs and public services which do help the working class. He gave people money, instead of taking it away from them.

You can not blame Brown solely for the failure of mainstream economics and global capitalism without blaming a load of other people including George Osborne. In fact we are still using that failed economics in response to the crisis it created. That is the problem and it is not being addressed. But the Gordon Brown spent to much narrative has trapped you into even think rationally as to whether having a surplus is actually something we should aim for etc.

I';m implying people like yourself have a blind dogmatic dislike of Gordon Brown to the point it clouds any rational reasoning as to what the problems are or how to fix them. You appear to have a concern about tax justice and the working class, yet you can be convinced to never ever even think about voting for a party that would want to tackle that, because Gordon Brown. I'm not a big fan of Gordon Brown, but in this case I would say he is right.

The types of things you are complaining about would put you at home with me and those on the "left". But you wont touch them with a 10ft pole it would appear.

Nice speech, but it doesn't change the fact that Gordon Brown has proven himself a most incompetent politican. I am still laughing at your comparing criticising him to believing in a flat earth.

A quote from Gordon Brown;
"We have put an end to boom and bust".

Well the complete moron was half right wasn't he, he eliminated the boom in an economy.

Look. You just made a thread complaining that the Tories are doing away with something that Gordon Brown played a big part in creating.

You are beyond saving. :s-smilie:

Never trust a man who doesn't learn from his mistakes.

So why are we still dogmatically aiming for the equilibrium holy grail in economics?

Is there even such thing as equilibrium?

You are attacking the the blind reliance on a free market when you attack Gordon Brown.

I prefer not to trust a man who makes mistake after mistake after mistake myself. Each to their own though. I prefer to put my trust in a man who isn't proven to be an absolute twit in all the areas I mentioned. I didn't even speak about welfare.

I support capitalism for when the banks do well and socialism when they fail. Capitalise the profits, socialise the losses.

Gordon Brown did this very well-if any politican manages to go one step further and finish the working and middle classes for good rather than just making them pay for the worst crash in a hundred years I will support them.

End sarasm.

How could Gordon Brown have known that 2008 would happen? The models the mainstream used (which are the same models George Osborne used/uses) do not even allow such an event as what happened in 2008 to happen.

No one is learning from the past. They may as well all be alchemists. Gordon Brown my not be learning from the past but he is no longer Chancellor. Osborne is.

All the talk you here about spending too much is jsut pseudo economic propaganda from the Tories, they do not believe it themselves. It has no bearing in reality. It is designed to to just throw you away from the labour party rather than actually educate you.

I'm not sure why you've given me a sarcastic answer when I asked you a genuine question.
Which party did you vote for at the last election?

So how are the Tories addressing this injustice that you have rightly spotted? Why is someone who relies on tax credits being punished. How is that a solution to addressing that problem?

There are a lot of commentators, philosophers, economists who agree with that analyses of what happened in 2008. Are you not interested in what they have to say?

I voted for an independent who assured me that he could single handedly destroy the country. He admitted himself that he could never quite reach the success of Brown in this matter but he would give it his best shot.
