You're now in charge of the UK's university funding policy. Congratulations!

Your first decision is to set the ceiling for university tuition fees. So what's the new limit?

Did you legit create an option where the answer is "over 9000"? Accidental meme?

£3k pa is arbitrary but feels right.

No it doesn't. Everyone goes to school, therefore school is useless too?

Useless was the wrong word, I'll admit.

More worthless, in comparison to what a degree and going to university once was.
I think the people who voted for university fees to be free, should take a good look at themselves and be ashamed. Nothing should be free in life and other than a basic education, your basic human rights and free healthcare, you are entitled to nothing in life. You work for what you obtain. You leftists are truly toxic to our society. How about the university lecturers who have dedicated their lives to their study, they need to be paid, and they deserve to be paid well, all the accommodation and administrative staff that help with your applications to university and any day-to-day problems, all the societies and sports teams etc. Someone needs to pay for them. And the answer is not tax all the hard working middle class even more extortionate amounts of there hard-earned money to send someone they don't even know to university. You leftists are promoting a lazy society, a dangerous society in which the art of you get what you put In is disappearing to be replaced with quite simple your communist ideologies. If you want to go to university, then it will cost you £9K. That is perfectly fair. If you don't like it don't go, don't continue to rob people because of your selfishness.

Or maybe we can charge the wealthy. The middle classes actually benefit most from free higher education. What counts as a basic education? Primary? Secondary? A levels? Just key stage 1? Where do you draw the line?

No!!! The wealthy do not deserve to be punished for their hard work. Just because they have more money than the average person does not under any fair circumstance mean they should have to pay to send other people to university!! They already pay 45% tax on all of their income to help everyone have free healthcare, free education etc. Without them our society would collapse and we are not thankful enough for how much taxation they already endure. At some point., they worked themselves up to get to where they are today, and people are unjustly trying to theoretically steal from them. Every day I go to school, and every morning I tell myself to work as hard as I possibly can so that one day I can reap the rewards of my dedication and hard work. Whilst I will always support having my income taxed to ensure everyone gets a free healthcare and free education to A-Level standard I will not accept anything more than that. 45 % is already a shocking shocking level of taxation for anyone within a cap afloat society. If you want to go to university you pay for it yourself and you then go to work to recover the debt. Having a university education is a privilege, NOT an entitlement. And just a quick point regarding your comment about middle class people benefiting most, I reject this notion because most middle-class children attend independent schools of some status.

Actually most wealth is inherited. We have very low social mobility in this country. They don't pay their fair share of tax because they dodge it.

The notion that the "wealthy dodge taxes" is fundamentally nonsensical. That notion is like saying in 1940 "all Germans were Nazi's" and and "all homeless are drug abusers." Whilst I have no pure statistical evidence for the following comment I assure you 90% of the wealthy pay their full share of tax. And even if they didn't they still pay unjust colossal amounts of money to society. And even if most health is inherited which it is not, so what? That child's parents worked hard, you can't just take that away from them and forget all what they did to obtain that wealth in the first place?! Unfortunately financial differentiation is an absolute necessity in any functioning democracy. As a wise man once said, "if you made everyone on the planet equal, by the morning poverty and wealth would have risen again. The rich would save it, the poor would spend until nothing remained." [it] referring to money. I just honestly don't see how some people can honestly sit there and think it is okay for someone else to pay for your education, and so many people believe that notion it scares me greatly.

More than £9000. If I'm doing a degree that's going to earn me £200,000 over my lifetime, and it costs £15,000 a year to teach me that degree, why should I only pay £3000 or £0 like the most popular answers in this poll say? It's pretty selfish to think that way really.

As long as the repayment plan is reasonable (it is currently), therefore not preventing poorer students from going to university, this is the fairest way. The individual gets most of the benefit, they cover most of the cost.

Find it absurd that you complain about social mobility when talking about tuition fees.
If the Tories really did have some vendetta for the working class like some people proclaim, they wouldn't have placed these loans in. Where 75% won't pay off! It is almost a free ticket to university for those who are from working class backgrounds to climb the social ladder

Is uk university education comparable to say, a U.K. Private education?
In terms of facilities etc it tends to be better.

The average (boarding) private fee is now £33k per year

USA alumni have a big tradition of donating fading to their colleges
U.K. Graduates do not, meaning that uk unis rely on grants, property deals and cash from studenst

We can follow in the footsteps of Germany

So start telling people they're too dumb to go to uni again? The one problem with that is it will go the same way as all exams, the standards will drop and we have done nothing more than add billions to the budget
Should be £0, it was before, it can be again. /thread.

and where would all the money come from?
Depends what your being tutored in.

Medicine 4k+

Anything else is like 1k I mean serious most of these subjects just require reading a few books in the library, hardly justifies 9k

Can gain more knowledge in an accessible way from a subject specialist £50-100 book than from a £9k university course!
Fees should be set relative to the course and institution they are currently at. This would therefore allow those who attend less prestigious universities, who are likely to not have as high job prospects, not to be owing the government in excess of £27,000 + Variable Maintenance Loan. This would thus result in more students attending these lower ranked universities which ultimately could result in the rise of standards of UK universities. The increased demand for lower ranked universities would therefore provide them with a means to increase their standards within the UK market. The top ranked universites' thus may also improve/maintain their high teaching quality in order to keep their fees high. Ultimately, leading to a more rounded, less elitist system in the UK - with less people being in debt to the government and thus the government having more of their money spent on other areas of the economy.
I could go into more detail to further back my points, as what I have written is incredibly simplified. However, I truly believe this system would benefit the whole of the UK society.
You're not just paying for the course. You're also paying for the facilities.
