Hi, i've applied to cardiff met and have an interview on the 1st! Its a lot to prepare for the day!

My interview is the 1st December too! I know there's so much to prepare, it's going to be a long day haha
Hi guys! I've applied to UEL, UCL and LSBU....I know LSBU isn't the greatest of universities but there was something really interesting about their curriculum for PGCE so I went ahead.

I have an interview at LSBU next week which I have no information about, they haven't sent me any info about that yet. I also have an interview at UCL on 9th December

ETA: I've just read the attachment again and realised it says right there what the presentation is about. Duh. By 'no visual aids' do they mean no powerpoint?

I sent my application off yesterday and have had confirmation emails for the three choices but I just want to know nowwwww, never felt so impatient!

Yes, so they basically want you to give a presentation without any powerpoints or use of projector etc. Basically nothing with notes on it to help you. So I would practice at home in front of someone/ in a mirror (lol).

It was for Primary Core - there was 22 people there in the afternoon and they had the same in the morning so it's competitive but remember not all of them are applying for the same primary course... Some were primary maths specialist or pe specialist or school direct or even SCITT...
Good luck though  it's scary but it'll all be worth it

Oh wow!! I'm nervous for that now! Which part did you find the hardest?

It says in the email that notes are allowed, I was just wondering about the powerpoint!

Oh, ok in that case definitely no to the powerpoint as that is a visual aid. If they allow notes, that fine. Bear in mind, I had a similar interview which said no visual aid, notes permissible - but they mentioned that the notes shouldn't be extensive, as they want to see confidence in your presentation as opposed to constantly looking at notes,

Good luck!

I have my first interview in 2 weeks!

It's at Sussex Uni so I'm not 100% sure how I feel about the course (it's Classics with History not Latin with Classics and I have done Classics for 6 years at uni now but I've barely touched modern history in that time...) But they don't make you sit a Latin exam so...

I have to prepare a presentation on an artefact. For some reason I'm finding the idea quite difficult which is stupid because that is literally a part of my current job.

I found planning the presentation quite hard, but they do let you take notes into the interview. I just wrote bullet points about my subject (I talked about a pot which depicted the Greek Chorus) and looked at them if I got stuck.

Good luck!

Thanks!

How many other people were at your interview? I've no idea how many people normally apply for Classics and I know they like to see how we interact with others!

There were two other classicists in my interview, but we shared it with people applying for History (of which there were six).

Ah okay yeah that makes sense.

I'm really starting to worry with there only being like 50 places for our subject. I guess it's probably not any more competitive than others because of how few take Latin but it's still quite scary to think that there really aren't that many places.

I'm still not sure what I'll do my presentation on. I've got a few ideas but trying to work out which would be the best is hard.
Starting to lose hope of getting a place as I feel like the only person still waiting on references... The woman said she has had to ask the deputy head to comment on my capability as a teacher (who has never seen me teach by the way).
Getting fed up and my current job is getting me down, so no PGCE at the end of the tunnel is making things worse.
After my earlier post I've now been offered an interview!
Is anyone still doing their degree?

I am and just want it over now so I an train to be a teacher....

Honestly, do not worry. Most of the people on here are the really enthusiastic people who apply early. Many providers won't fill their places until next year, so there isn't a huge rush. I'm not applying until Jan/Feb time at the earliest as I can't get any experience until then. I'm not particularly worried.

Thanks I'm feeling nervous but it's not til 1/12 so I'm lucky compared to others getting an interview with only a few days to prepare!

Yeah winchester seems really nice, went to an open evening and the staff seemed friendly and helpful. Found out today that I've got an interview there next week

I don't think I'd be cut out for SCITT either, even though i'm doing some unqualified teaching atm. My partner is getting more stressed as the term goes on; keeping up with full time work and study is tough. He's doing secondary.

Oh yay  well done for getting interview! Let me know how it goes? I like the idea of Winchester as I had a few friends who did there teaching degrees there (4 yr one)

Secondary is difficult at best of times :/ I can't imagine how difficult a SCITT in secondary must be :/ Well done to him
