Flatmate Experiences

I'm starting University in September 2016, and since I'm moving into halls I was curious about experiences people have had with their flatmates, both positive and negative. So feel free to post your experiences in this thread.
Positive= nights in/out together. having a group of people already living together makes socialising easier to organise, have company even on quieter nights when nothing in particular going on
Negative= often at least a couple of people who can't seem to clear up after themselves, use other peoples stuff without asking, occasionally steal food. Can be noisy when you want to sleep.
Havent had any experiences.
None of them seem bothered about building a bond with me, so im not gonna waste my energy.

For me, I got on with my flatmates but they were extremely loud and so open about everything. They were extremely messy as well which is something you're going to have to put up with especially if you're unfortunate like me and get stuck with shared bathroom accommodation where are few guys in my flat left some unpleasant surprises. Also, be prepared for fire alarms - they always ring in the most inconvenient times.
Positives I guess was that we could drink all day and party all night basically if you're into that. We did stay in a few nights during freshers because the clubs were like half an hour bus ride from our halls which was annoying. Flat parties to be fair are the best parties because you get to chose your own music and not have to listen to rubbish house music in sweaty clubs - plus you can party in your pyjamas.
A big tip, make an effort to get to know the people around you - not just your flatmates. If you find that you don't get along with them or don't want to live with them next year, those neighbours will be there for you.

Sorry for the long post - hope it helps.

Yes, thank you this has been helpful! I'm expecting to have an accommodation where I share the bathroom and kitchen, so I'll prepare myself for the worst but try to be hopeful it doesn't happen.
