Is it bad form to ask when responses will be sent out via the department's twitter feed?

I went to cambridge for my undergraduate, studied teen pregnanc. was an eye-opening experience.

I would like to come back for my postgrad doing research on child pregnancy.

i only got a third last time around, thanks to my thesis being considered "racist and abominable".

What are my chances of making it?

btw I got CCDE as AS, pe, photography, childcare, health and social
EEE at A2 (dropped pe)

Thanks guys, no hard feelings about the competition i am

I don't think you're going to make it...

This doesn't sound like a genuine post given the typical troll- like "I got into Oxbridge with Es at A-level" statement but anyway - university wide minimum entry requirement for a master's is a 2:1, unless you can get the department to argue an exception, which sounds very unlikely in your case. In fact you'd find it difficult to get into just about any uni for a master's with a third,

If it's anonymous, I don't see the issue. Why not just e-mail and ask?
This is probably a silly question - but since michaelmas term ends so early (this week I think?) will offers still be made after this date i.e the few weeks running up to christmas? I'm applying to the linguistics dept and they make offers/rejections within 4-6 weeks of application. Thanks for any help.

It's only undergrads who finish soon - postgrads and staff are still working.

My department (not linguistics) finishes on 16th December officially but some people will still be around after that date.

Of course silly me. Thank you for clarifying!

Could I please pick your brain on Jesus College? What do you know about it and anything interesting?

You're welcome - actually it's rather nice when the undergrads have gone, much quieter in college & easier to get a space in the college library! Main UL and faculty libraries go on reduced hours though so evenings & weekends which can be a pain.

Sorry, as a part-timer I've got limited college knowledge - my social life revolves around the department really.

When did you get your offer? My first choice is trinity too and it has been showing "Under consideration by college" since Nov 20.
Anyone know if I should email the college to ask?
Thanks

That's exactly two weeks ago. Be patient. It took people a few weeks before they heard. It took my college over a month.

Ah, had no idea! Thanks
Hello everyone

I'm considering apply for a PhD programme at Cambridge for the 6th January deadline. Are college placements for successful applicants all decided together after this deadline. If so, I assume an early application increases the chances of receiving an offer from a first choice college?

College decision timing can be influenced by how your department makes decisions. Once an offer is made by the department, BoGS sends it on to the colleges. So if your department waits till all applications are in before deciding, then your college application effectively waits with it. If departments make decisions on a rolling basis, you may get to consideration by college sooner. Then, different colleges take different amounts of time to make decisions too.

College placements are considered on a rolling basis: once an offer is made by a department, the application gets sent to the person's first-choice college, who then have a certain amount of time to decide whether they will take this person or not. So, in theory an earlier application/offer might help if you were looking at getting into a very popular college, as if you didn't receive an offer until the spring, having applied in January, some of the extremely popular colleges *could* be full. However, as you might have seen earlier in the thread with the person who was rejected by Trinity despite quite an early offer, there is no guarantee that an earlier offer means you'll get your first-choice college. Colleges can be quite capricious in how they select people, so I wouldn't worry about it too much and just list two colleges you like on your application, bearing in mind the info available on popularity of colleges here - if you want a really popular college as your first choice, it might be wise to choose a less-popular one as your second choice since you're more likely to get in. But really, most people are happy wherever they end up, so don't get massively hung up on it.
Good luck
Still under consideration by department. I doubt I'll hear anything before Christmas now. I wish I wasn't such an impatient person!

Hi guys, I am looking to apply for MPhil Real Estate Finance and MPhil in Planning, Growth and Regenation in Cambridge this year.

Not sure if I have a shot... here is my profile: international student, top 10 UK university, top 4 UK Business School, obtain high 2:1(68%) so far, major in project management. Had one year placement work experience with an high profile IT company also did some summer internships in acf and project management area, but not in the industry of real estate, I had GMAT score of 690.

I am writing the personal statement now and find it's really struggle as I don't have much academic/professional link to the course.

Congrats on those received offers, hope you guys can comment on my chance. Thanks!

On the form they ask:
"If you have worked on a research project, either for your first degree or subsequently, please describe your work below; your account should be intelligible to anyone who is not a specialist in your field. If you have no such research experience, leave this space blank; a blank entry will not prejudice your application."

Do they mean theses, or research projects in labs?

Know someone who got in but although he had less experience he was in the top 1% of the graduating class. By the looks of it, they're pretty big on taking in people who have stellar grades.
