Has anyone else (especially those who got interviewed on 11th Nov) got mail like the below . I got one just now , don't know if it is 100% sure that I would get offer or still I should wait for offiicial thru UCAS before jumping.

Out of my 5 (Southampton, Bath, Bristol, Surrey, and Imperial College) I discounted Bristol pretty soon after making all the visits.
It's department just isn't up to the same standards as the others', especially So'ton's - backed up by its position in the league tables (14th if I remember? With the others at 1st, 10th, 3rd and 2nd respectively).

Ive visited both Bristol and Southampton, Also applying for EEE.
Southampton is 100% better for EEE, Nationally they are very reputable, there department is heavily invested into and have a strong faculty.
Bristol on the other still has a strong dept, but Southampton is definitely better. Bristol has the international reputability, like you said more 'Prestigious', this doesn't necessarily mean its better, as proven through Southampton's EEE dept outranking Bristol. Industries in the UK would see a degree from Southampton as stronger. Internationally it would probably have to go to Bristol.

Good LuckI live 25 minutes away from Southampton, so that's another bonus (drawback to others, I'm sure
). I went to the Headstart course at Soton last year, really enjoyed it. Makes sense to go with what you have experience with. I think due to the large amount of funding EECS at Soton gets, it really does have a stark contrast to everywhere else.Out of interest, what department is Bristol famous for?

I went to theirs last Wednesday, you should find the timetable on the applicant portal. It's nothing to worry about, it's just a more specialised open day really. If I were you I'd come with a few questions to ask as you have about half an hour to talk to Professors and Lecturers and it can be a tad awkward if you don't have anything to ask. It's the first year they're doing this rather than interviews so they seemed as lost as I was.

Many thanks for the response. Glad to know that it is not a one to one interview. I have already been to the Uni in sep for an open day, not a EEE specific one. So will have to go again in Jan.
Does this mean an offer is in the pipeline? How many came for the applicants day last wed?

There was about 20-25 on Wednesday, and I got my offer the next day. The professor I was talking to said that all offers are made a few days after the applicant day.

Hi, I Just recieved an invitation aswell, Is it compulsory to come, does it affect me chance of an offer in any way?
I went on a Headstart Summer School in the University of Surrey, so ive already visited and had a tour/questioned answered specific to EEE etc. Therefore i feel like its a bit of a waste to go. Im considering emailing them letting them know why i wouldn't like to attend.
I'm a first year doing EEE at Soton, feel free to ask me any questions! I was in your position last year, so I thought I'd help you guys out, as those in the year above did for me

Hi,
I'm a first year International Management student studying here at the University of Bath. I have really enjoyed my time here so far! In making your decision of which offer to firm I would consider what type of university you are looking for, Bath is a campus university for example. I like this because it means that you will very frequently bump into friends, having everything on campus is also very convenient! I would certainly recommend attending offer holder days to get a better feel for each university. Our careers service at Bath is also very strong, it is worth considering how much you value this kind of support. Even as a first year I have had a great amount of support on my application to PwC for their Talent Academy. This was a major factor that encouraged me to make Bath my firm choice.
I believe that we have an engineering student also monitoring the Student Room, so do feel free to quote me for any engineering specific questions!

next year couldn't come soon enough...Congrats! The one thing I recommend to do over the summer before you start is to familiarise yourself with the basics of the C programming language (if you don't have any prior experience of programming). That's what you'll cover in your programming module (ELEC1201 if you're interested) in your first semester. But It doesn't have to be a lot, try and watch a couple short videos or something.
It makes the lab work a lot easier if you're already familiar, I didn't do much programming before I started the course so it was a steep learning curve for me! I still managed to get by though, so it isn't required if you don't have the time haha

Good luck! I went to an EDT Headstart Southampton summer school when I was in Year 12 so I already knew what the university and the department was like. Mind you when I went they had the old labs and now they have the new ones (opened this September), so it looks even better!
In terms of the course I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but I didn't really think about it. Now that I'm here I can confirm there's a lot of work. But it's manageable, and you learn a lot of valuable skills straight from the get-go, so it doesn't feel like what you're learning is pointless.
I still have time to go on nights out which is great, and the bus links are really good so it's easy to get around the city.
