Whats your biggest issue youre facing atm at university?

Omg I've only been to 1 this whole first term (and it was in the very last week of term) ! Last year i only went to a total of 5

Lmaooo as the term started I slowly stopped going! It's so bad though

Hoping semester two isn't like that

I think I always had this plan that i wanted to be more of a courtroom lawyer as my passion for debating and public speaking was the reason why I chose the degree.

However, I have come to realise that the types of law that I enjoy/excel in are mostly litigation heavy and desk jobs.

If i had wanted a desk job then I wouldn't have pursued the degree in the first place.

I think that is where my problem lies.

I was able to take an optional extra credit course in 1st year and I chose forensic medicine. I absolutely adored the course and it made me realise that i had this immense interest in human anatomy and physiology which I had never been able to explore whilst in school.

Over the past few months I haven't been able to get forensic medicine out of my head and i think it has just confused things further for me.

heck knows how I even manage tbh...I never learn from my lessons and end up giving myself a lot of stress come exam time; caz then I have to revise ridiculously hard to do well.

Thankfully no exams in Jan, they're all in June
But I do have two summative essays

That's just like me haha I'm T rying to learn from last year mistakes and attend all lectures and revise early haha

That's natural though, I mean to find something else you're fascinated by....you're like me in a way as I really like stuff to do with nature/geology/human anatomy & sports science but I'm doing engineering however you can always find ways to link your interests!

For example one of the roles i interviewed for recently was being a design engineer for a medical company where I basically get to work with surgeons and design custom made joint replacements etc for them...so it combines both engineering and human anatomy/physiology.

You chose law for a reason remember so you must have had a keen interest in something! Is there a way you can in co-operate law into any of the other interests? Could you somehow transition into becoming a courtroom lawyer?

P.s. Courtroom Lawyers are so cool, like Gary Neil in the O.P. case I must have watched every court viewing on that was so interesting haha

I mean i love my degree and the study of law really fascinates me. but what i have realised is that the study and the practice of law are completely different things, and I don't necessarily love them both.

Yeah there are ways that i could potentially combine my law degree with my love for human anatomy i.e. a coroner. So i guess that is something I could consider more.

My family are all engineers so I feel your pain with your degree haha ! I am the first to go to university in my family to pursue a non-science degree.
My family have been asking me to consider medicine now for a few months and I have come to really like the idea. i was very good at science in school but I loved debating so much that i decided to study law instead as I would be the only lawyer in the family amongst the engineers and doctors.

i have been considering graduate entry medicine after my degree, but it seems like such a crazy jump to go from law to medicine

To get qualified in medicine will take you a VERY long time and also you have to think about if you're actually prepared to dedicate yourself to 5+ more years of studying. I wouldn't let the peer pressure of family to get in your way...my parents always say "you did well choosing engineering" because its a hard degree but in reality I only chose it because that is what I was interested in and to pursue any of my dream jobs I need the degree.

Its so important to block everyone out and find your own path, dont just do something because youre being pressured into it (sometimes this pressure gets to you and can result in you making rash decisions) have some time to really think about it....think about your options and create your own path! I can tell youre good at debating though you can express yourself very well....very fitting for a lawyer

i have a love for pathology (how gruesome!) and i have been shadowing pathologists so that i could really see what the profession involved.

been to work with him a couple of times when i was younger and it is gruesome but it's kinda cool too (its like CSI haha)
