Congratulations! That's excellent news - my friends in chemistry seem to have a great time. Last semester people were putting up snapchats of insane explosions and experiments being done in inorganic and physical chemistry; someone said they were let out early once because the lecturer had exploded a hydrogen balloon which caused him to go temporarily deaf. It all sounds very exciting in chemistry.
I got an unconditional for physics on Friday...so happy I can't wait to start

Huge congratulations! The school of physics is the best school. If you have any questions about it, just ask me - also, I entered directly into 2nd year physics so if that's something you're contemplating or curious about please let me know.

thank you very much! Oh cool I'm entering at year one but I am doing advanced higher maths and physics this year so I suppose if I do well in them I could consider second year entry! I loved it at the open day I'm so happy to have got in

I didn't deicide to enter into 2nd year until I had actually moved to St Andrews! It's an amazing place and you will love it - the physics lecturers are the friendliest and most down to Earth people around.

Hi everyone !
I applied to St Andrews on the 6th of October (a looong time ago then) for Economics and International Relations. Do you think they could have rejected me before the UCAS deadline or they just start to send out decisions by 15th January ?
I'm french by the way

They usually send out decisions after the 15th of January. You should hear back by the end of March

oh it sounds great! I feel so lucky to be going to St. Andrews! What are your thoughts on having a part time job while I'm there, my work said they could request to get me a transfer to the store in St. Andrews but is it a good idea to have a job on top of studies and social life at St. Andrews?

I hope we'll heard back soon!
I don't think I'm going to get an offer, they take very few EU applicants :s-smilie:

I manage a job, five committees, studying and a social life at once - it's pretty hectic but manageable since you're actually living with your friends. I'd say keep the job if you can get only a few hours per week, it means you have a source of income and will help you organise yourself better. Almost everyone who has a part-time job manages their time very well as so to be able to study and socialise and still have free time.

Aw I see, great thank you very much. Yeah I'll just need to wait and see if they can offer me any hours

I went in October for an open day and although it was small, I loved the feel of it. Its very student-ty as you'd expect because of the size versus the population of the uni, but I live about 12 miles away from Durham so I'm used to that. It's got a range of shops which I was surprised at because I was picturing it to be a ghost town.

What are job prospects like? Is there a lot of part time work in like bars/restaurants?
Hi all! Applied for Computing Science, hoping to receive a conditional offer as I'm only in 5th year.

There are plenty of places in town offering part-time jobs. I work a few hours a week and I know of many others who do the same. It isn't too difficult to find a job, it just involves walking into places and handing in CVs which is monotonous.
