Okay that explains it

Doubt it explained anything.

I receive no support from family after I've started earning real money.

So do you think that Warwick is better than LSE?

Did I say that? No. I said empirically speaking Warwick makes up the majority of spring week and intern students, at least at a certain BB which I won't state. Take from that what you will.

High tier consulting is a bit more elitist with Oxbridge dominating for MBB in particular..

I was told this by an old tutor too who works as an actuary for a large insurance company, over 50% of management were Oxbridge graduates.

You can't tell me something 'empirically', if you have no concrete evidence to back it up.

Quote me the number of students at BB's and how many of them are from Warwick.

And also, you're too hung up on IB. This list of unis is for overall prestige. Not for one Uni being very good for Maths and Banking.

Maths and economics is where Warwick can be regarded as one of the best in the UK, it also does very well in getting grads to IB positions. For most of its other courses it really isn't what its made out to be and UCL is better overall. In international rankings, Manchester, Edinburgh and Kings also come ahead of Warwick, imo apart from its Maths and Econ courses, its overrated.

Well only if I get 3A*s because it's a safe bet, guaranteed interview and autopool

Really? That's good at least, but I'd just be hesitant to turn down my uni offers for this year, as they're likely to reject me next year if I re-applied to the same ones. But Cambridge is the dream *sigh*

In my opinion, I think Durham and St Andrews may be in there (definitely in terms of humanities) and are academically on par with UCL at least.

It's fair to say however that due to their locations they're slightly undermined.

I responded to a statement about IB, did I not? By definition empirically means by observation so I'm not sure what you're on about to be honest. Also don't try and be discursive in such a transparent manner, it's pretty clear why you're only at a 'good uni' I haven't been interested in IB in over a year and a half, why would I have kept any of the facts from those conversations? Like I said take it as you will.

honestly couldnt read through 19 pages of this, but has anyone suggested separating this out into subjects, like properly? if they have then shoot me down...

Ill start for economics
1) Cambridge
2) LSE
(Reluctant to put Oxford PPE in the list but if I did it'd go here)
3) Warwick
4) UCL

Anyone have anything to add?

CS? that's a first !

Nope, Maths. I actually switched from Maths and CompSci to Maths in my first term of first year at Imperial.
LOOL ffs, people stop saying nonsense like Bristol, Edinburgh and St Andrews are top 5... they are not.

Oxbridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL, Warwick and maybe Durham are the only names that should be on this thread tbh.

Also, about Durham, tho i don't particularly like it, is verrrry good for the Arts such as Law and geography. They also have a stellar physics dept.

From purely a salary basis, LSE economics is next gen. But overall I agree.

If Bristol, Edinburgh and St Andrews are definitely not, neither are Warwick or Durham.

Why would they reject you? I doubt that. You could've just decided on a last minute gap year so!
I am a mum reading my sons STR watched threads. I was until recently a Director in IB, and I can honestly say you guys are all getting too het up on 'which uni'. We, who are recruiting you, never look at league tables, have no idea which uni is better at subject than another, and our knowledge of which unis are best is out of date as we are all much older than you. We are interested in subject/uni and we stick with many of the old fashioned ones because we remember the best ones from when we went to uni. Thus there is Oxbridge, followed by (in no particular order, LSE, Imperial, Kcl, UCL, Bristol,Durham , St Andrews,Warwick). Russell Group means little to us ( unless our kids are applying to uni noone knows who is in RG anyway) and there is ridiculous bias against people from grubby unis up north. Many people have no idea that some unis are falling from their previously lofty perches eg Bristol, as it was just below Oxbridge in my day. We've worked out that Warwick is great now, having been a new uni when we were growing up. We do not study any of these micro diferences. So go to UCL/Kings/ Durham etc and worry not - all of you at these unis stand an excellent chance. I worry for the kids lured into the new top 10 unis, the UEA and Surrey applicants, for these unis may well be fantastic, but do not yet have the prestige.
BTW - for Ronnie. At IBs there are lots of Oxbridge types and failed Oxbridge. They particularly love it when an Oxbridge grad fails and gets binned after the first year. The degree only gets you in the door.

It's true to an extent that a uni is not that important but to get on a grad scheme at an ib, the majority do come from a select few unis.

However, to get into just a position within an ib, connections are more important. I have come across quite a few who graduated from former polys.

Warwick is better according to Guardian and Sunday times too, most peole just like the ranking that suits them.

No I base my opinions having lived and worked and studied abroad and based on reputations of UK universities at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. UCL is certainly top 5 and would be 3rd if removed LSE and Imperial on account of both being specialist rather than multi-faculty institutions.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron.
