I went in October for an open day and although it was small, I loved the feel of it. Its very student-ty as you'd expect because of the size versus the population of the uni, but I live about 12 miles away from Durham so I'm used to that. It's got a range of shops which I was surprised at because I was picturing it to be a ghost town.

Thank you! What have you applied for?

Night isn't what you'd find in a large city - there are one or two places to go and with the amount of people there it can be quite fun, my roommate loves the themed "Bops" at the union and my friend loves karaoke night. Quite a few people (myself included) stay in with friends and a bottle of wine watching a movie or chatting away so it's really friendly and intimate in that respect and personally I prefer that to going out.

There are quite a number of jobs around if you ask, I work a part-time job in an ice-cream parlour, one of my academic dads delivers domino's, a friend makes domino's and another works in the Fairmont hotel for example - it's just a case of looking at what's available and handing in CVs.

St Andrews isn't a campus university since all the buildings are spread around the town. This is actually quite nice since you're not in a campus all day and can wonder around town and interact with people. Some of the architecture where I live is breathtaking! The only downside is potentially having to walk 15 minutes (maximum) to your lectures, tutorials etc. depending on where they are held and where you live - I stay in Sallies and physics is just under 15 minutes away.

The quality of teaching is marvellous. As would be the case at any institution, there are lecturers or tutors about whom people are initially sceptical but you will always learn something from them. If there are issues then there are students in your class who are elected to liaise with a module coordinator to discuss things like that. Out of the seven lecturers I had last semester, five of them, I would say, were the best people for the job and the other two were extremely intelligent and knowledgeable but were better at teaching one-on-one because they could address any issues much easier that way.
All the staff at the university are friendly and approachable people who are enthusiastic and want to get the best out of you.

I did! I applied for the MBiochem. What about yourself - did you chose a specialisation or just go for Biological Sciences? Have you gotten an offer yet?
