I was wondering if anyone has had a BCU interview?
So far I've had a interview for DMU
got a Leeds and BCU one coming up soon!!
really nervous and worried about BCU since they have a face to face interview this year!!!
Congrats to everyone who's got interviews so far I hope you all smash them
btw I am A-level student
Any tips?

Hi, I have an interview for DMU soon (face to face), was yours this year also? Just wondering if you have any advice? I've also applied to Leeds and BCU and wating to hear if I've got an interview  When did you apply to Leeds and BCU and when did you find out if you had an interview? Just wondering how long it should take to hear from them. Also, I was under the impression that all of them were face to face interviews, is this not the case?

I have an interview at BCU soon as well! from the open day it seemed that the interviews there shouldn't be anything to worry about they basically said that they are just making sure the applicants know what speech and language therapy is and that they have some sort of experience! I guess we'll soon find out though! How did the DMU interview go? BCU will be my first so I'm nervous about it too!

Hi, when did you apply to BCU and when did you find out you had an interview? I'm waiting to hear from them!

I applied 2 years ago and am aware that interviews have changed but most of the interviews at my time (I applied to MMU, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield) were mostly a written task with the odd group or short face to face individual interview.

Try not to overthink it - I am sure you will be fine!

Good luck

Like opalescent, I am not convinced you could write a successful personal statement which covered both medicine and speech and language therapy (SLT). All the medicine and SLT personal statements I have ever read have discussed how they became interested in the profession. It is not even just a case of them being different professions but they have completely different ways of working. The 'medical model' really does not work in SLT because often there is no known structural problem or medical diagnosis does not help you decide how to treat the patient. This is not to say one is better than the other, but more for you to decide which 'side' you are more comfortable working on.

A girl on my course was interested in medicine but was put off when she got some experience of this. I think she might have mentioned this in her personal statement. That shows quite rational decision making in my opinion but obviously not something you can do, especially in such a limited word count.

I was interested in medicine myself, and even had my UKCAT booked, but in the end I decided to go for SLT. I liked certain areas of medicine but there were too many areas I simply had no interest in learning and knew it would be a long slog for me if that was the case.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll just email to all the unis and ask what they think and go from there, but yeah they're very different courses and its highly likely in my peronal statement it will show, but anyways thanks, where do you study?

I've got interviews for, city, Leeds and Cardiff and had my BCU interview! It's nothing to worry about, very relaxed, had both written and spoken parts to it! Just make sure you're prepared for generic questions like why do you want to be a speech and language theraipist and what work experienced etc. Good luck!

I think they are likely to suggest you just pick one course otherwise it will be an easy rejection for them to make if you try and tailor it for both subjects.

I study at Newcastle. If you did want to do SLT then at Newcastle you get taught anatomy and physiology by medical and clinical neuroscience staff. The anatomy lecturer (McHanwell) is probably the most famous anatomist for SLTs along with his colleague at Sheffield. He literally wrote the book for SLT anatomy and has chapters in Gray's Anatomy on the pharynx and larynx. Some of this is completely overkill to be honest (e.g. a consultant cardiologist teaching us about the heart and brain circulation). But the 'medical' SLTs who specialise on things like motor speech disorders and stroke/aphasia are among the best in the UK if not the world too (e.g. Miller, Howard, Webster). This sort of course would be a good compromise as not all the SLT courses study anatomy etc. in as much depth. I guess Sheffield's would be another option (from what I have heard).
Hullo everyone  I have been lurking here for a while ...

I'm a mature student (will be 25 when I start), and I've applied to Reading, City, DMU, UEA and St Mark/St John. I've got an interview for DMU pretty soon, and just received quite a lengthy questionnaire from Reading which I assume will determine whether or not I'm invited for interview there as well. I am really hoping for Reading as it is the perfect location for me and obviously a fantastic uni!

Has anyone been to a DMU interview (or even any of the others) and can you tell me anything about the format - written/face to face etc.?

Best of luck everyone!

I've had an interview at BCU and I think out of all the interviews I've had it felt the most relaxed in terms of the atmosphere but also the people there. The staff were all really nice and helpful and I wouldn't be too worried about the face to face interviews as they were all really friendly and made me feel at ease.
Good Luck

Oh that's so good to here!! I don't want to feel pressured because I will start waffling! Are the face to face interviews before the written exercises?

Hi!!!!
I sent my UCAS application on the 17th November I received my BCU interview two weeks later and my Leeds interview on the 19th December. They basically took a month to reply so if you sent your application off recently don't worry! and nope most universities have a written element in their interview processes. However, BCU this year have a face to face whereas in previous years they only had a written part.
As far as my DMU interview it went okay the staff are friendly so you should be fine!! I had mines in December.
hope this helps
Good luck

Hey congrats on all your interviews was just wondering if you have had your Leeds interview?
Hey all, just wondering if anyone has received offers from mmu yet? I deferred my place in November so I go back this November, I can try and help with any questions you've got about the uni and the course  I'm also trying to get to know a few people as I'll be entering the course at a point when you all know each other!
Hello! Has anybody has an interview at Leeds? Just curious to know what it's going to be like

I applied to MMU but haven't heard back from them yet. It is my hoped-for choice as I wouldn't have to move, it's a three-year course, and I really like the psychological slant they have on their teaching. I keep compulsively refreshing my emails. I hope to get my offer and see you in November!

Aww well don't worry about it, I never found out until around March that I got in there, others got offers in December! It's nerve wracking to wait but worth it in the end. Keep us all updated  good luck x
