Yes, I included those

rent?

It leaves you with £1800 a month. You could rent a palace for that

it's slavery, brother. for someone who wants to retire early you should be doing better than 30K. guarantee you there are similar roles to yours at other companies paying at least 10K more, you're just being lazy.

Who said I was on 30k? Or that I'm underpaid for my current role?

How did you manage 2 internships in IB if you couldn't get past the AC?
one of the internships was pre-university, so no AC (just 2 interviews).

the other one i was lucky to be in an AC group with chinese people who could barely speak english and didn't contribute much, so the group exercises were a free pass for me.

AC is all about luck, lol.

negative.

i'm at the last stage (interview + presentation) for Capital One who are paying 37K + bonus. also final stage for The Hut who are paying 45-50K for a masters/PHD role. i also have a face-to-face interview with CHP consulting who are paying 40K for grad software developers. Fidelity also pay around the 37K mark and I have an AC with them.

i do have internships at IBs so maybe I'll apply as an associate after a few years.

national insurance? tax? rent?

Then go work for them.

it's not exactly the el chapo lifestyle though is it? el chapo would rent a palace, buy £500 python shoes and rock a world-shattering, custom-fitted suit.

that's the level that you need to be on realistically.

why you getting salty cos your "if you're not working at an IB you won't earn more than 30K" theory got debunked?

Hence why I said your expenses are too high
Well this spiralled out of control lol

It's all slavery.

You spend your wage on rent, commuting, posh drinks and parking...get 28 days off a year and hand them the waking hours of your 20's and 30's.

20k? 30k? 40? It matters not - though of course the latter is better than the former.
In 10-15 years you might well be on 6 figures. You'll still be working all the hours under the sun but will have become accustomed to a level of income and will have larger expenses. Tough to that give up...or to swing into early retirement.

That said, best of luck - roll the dice and see what happens. Hopefully not what we expect or is expected of us, as that's usually pretty depressing

the only big 4 firm i applied to was PwC after a friend told me i would be guaranteed 35K+ there. but yes, most of my applications / AC's are in the finance sector (which is why the 28-30K bracket isn't cutting it for me).

edit: actually in terms of consultancy, i'm at the final round interview stage for Accenture who I know pay 33K.

28-30K is slavery.

Dude said 'slavery'.. Ok bro, most people won't he able to achieve significantly more than that and unless you have an offer in hand with pay much higher than that you can't exactly speak.

Good luck, the £100k by 30 goal is achievable if you focus on the right roles/companies. I'll echo the other user in that data assurance isn't going to get you there - traditional big4 consulting (or the strategy arms of them) would.

I'm not salty? From what I've seen of your expectations and that you want to earn 6 figures by 30, you're only going to have that luck doing IB. I'm speaking more from areas outside London, not that familiar with starting salaries for whatever it is you're doing. If you've got offers of 50k starting then go work for that company, nothing salty about that.

and the alternative?

I suspect, on the basis of probability, that you will be disappointed.

Reue tbh you can make a decent amount in specialist areas but I agree with you tbh.. 30K isn't an awful wage at all. Currently on 28K and yes that technically is underpaid as another ISP will pay around 40-45K for the same work but it is also not bad either and its my first real job

I was referring to his other goals of 100k by 30 and retiring early

Ah I see. Yeah that's probably not going to happen tbh. Maybe if you become a contractor. Companies up north are paying £225/day which is pretty good!

Contracting rates for a decent business analyst in london is 500-600 per day, easy to pull in over 100k.

Easy being a relative term, easy if you're in the right industry etc etc.

Edit: for example, I have big 4 colleagues who left big 4 consulting after 3-4 years (senior consultant grade) into 550 a day roles. I also have colleagues who have left, or been offered roles (who were manager grade) in the 650 to 800 per day.

I'm talking £225/day with very basic qualifications. The other thing is, a house that costs 80K up north will cost you some 30K down south. Its all relative

Even £600 a day isnt £100k a year

Agreed. And as before, it is all relative any way. House prices are oh so much cheaper up north

A 65K salary up there would probably be the equivalent of a 100K salary down south
