Woman refuses medical treatment from Muslim

This happened around a month ago, but I only just read about it now.
Honestly this is so ridiculous. Why would someone refuse medical treatment based on the religious beliefs of the doctor? Quite sad and pathetic really

Well, you answered it already. Because they're sad and pathetic. If I were rushed to hospital or something for surgery, I'm hardly going to say to my doctor "One second mate, can I have a check if you're circumcised or not? Can't have a Jew treating me, I'd rather die." So stupid. Yet, I've seen these kinds of instances in the news before with various religions.

Hospitals are stretched as it is, so if someone doesn't want treatment by a doctor because of their religion, they should be put right back of the queue.

I'm sure there were others waiting who needed a doctor.

I agree.
I'd refer her on to another hospital within the trust that didn't have any Muslims employed in the surgical department. She'll soon change her mind when she isn't getting treatment due to her bigoted views.

Eh, I Haven't read the article but no one should have treated her if she declined treatment by a Muslim doctor.

Pulling out these figures doesn't give much value to the argument. If there actually is any argument here. Is it because you can't trust a Muslim, because they have mutilated genitals? Are that you can't stand to be near one?

The fact is this woman denied herself treatment from medical specialists because of bigotry. Plain and simple. I don't see why you've talked in a roundabout way but only gotten to the conclusion that there are a "number of reasons" for rejecting medical care.


So, just so I can clarify here: refusing to be treated by someone who is proportionally far more likely than another member of the population to believe in stoning people to death, chopping off hands, mutilating genitalia and sympathy for suicide bombers, is 'bigotry'?

Oh, there was me thinking it meant protecting cherished western values and refusing to extend liberal values to those who pro-actively denounce them and believe in illiberal values.

I see no reason why liberal people should extend liberal values to people who aren't liberal.

In France the medical staff cannot have religious and political items. I appreciate not having to deal with people telling me their religion.

I wouldn't like it if the doctor kept his hat on, or a badge saying "I vote the Conservative Party"; he may really like it, but it is inconsiderate to keep it while working. I don't want to know the political opinions and religious beliefs of the public service employees.
