I've tried it a few times and have never understood the appeal.
Edit: Also, I'd be interested hearing from people who are social smokers. I have a few friends who are social smokers and I don't quite understand it - if you're a regular smoker, I can sort of understand (nicotine is addictive, after all), but I don't understand why you would do it occassionally in social situations.

What is there not to understand; the term is self-explanatory. It's for those who want an occasional fag without getting hooked, and it's good to get some fresh air and socialise every now and again, isn't it?

I think breathing in toxic chemicals into your lungs negates the 'fresh air' you get.
