Surprised at people actively aiming for £30k. It's pretty difficult to live in your own place on £30k with a decent lifestyle and still be able to save money.

Maybe that's just me, though :dontknow:

You mean, have a flat for yourself?

30k a year is 2.5k a month

If you spend 1k in all accomodation expenses + food, which I'm rounding way up, you still have 1.5k left a month. How do you budget a 2.5k salary? :dontknow:

I live in a 3 bedroom new house dead in the centre of norwich, and it costs £800 a month. With 1k I could pay this and council tax and still have some left over for food. And this is a 3 bedroom house with backyard and parking space.

You're a lyrical genius. We should like, collab. You write the song, I sing itcoz'wedon'tneedppldeaf

That was heavy man :cry2:

Ur I don't need you bringing me down. How about I write and I sing and you just sit there and watch

My voice is good 😐

And I know. I had tears as I was writing it
30k starting, 60k by my 30s and hopefully over 100k end career.

Is Norwich a tax haven?

£30k is more like £1800 post tax and student loan. Minus your £800pcm rent and £70pcm council tax and you've got £930 to pay for electric, water, gas, internet, phone. Then minus car, transport, parking costs.

Doesn't leave you much to play with while saving for a house, family etc. unless you really want to knuckle under.

Sorry I meant 30k after tax.

And yes, but obviously you are not going to rent a 3 bedroom house for yourself. This was just an example. Put the house down as £650/month with council tax for a decent 1 bedroom. Food for 1 person = £100/120 quid (rounding up, I spend about 80, and I eat good stuff). Water + gas + electric + internet = £100/ month. Lets say £100-£150 quid for a car.

Worst case scenario this makes a total expense of £1020 per month. I'm not counting family because in that case we would be looking at a household income and not just at 1 individual's income.

Still £1500 to play with.

... So we're talking about two entirely different scenarios here.
Not even gonna lie... more than £200k. :colondollar:
£30,000
15k+ and I'd be happy enough, though I probably have differing priorities. I don't plan to have a family so I don't have to worry about being able to afford kids. Rent here is cheap, and I don't tend to enjoy lavish things any more than ordinary things so I'm not a big spender. So long as I have enough money to pay for the roof over my head, food, bills, socialising and pocket some money in savings for a rainy day without worrying then I'm happy.
Depends on the industry

Enough to live in west or north Inner London comfortably.

I'm not really sure what my starting salary would be because I'll probably have to get a PhD as soon as I graduate to be able to get a decent role in research

When I'm fully fledged in my career ~£40k would be more than enough. Though tbh, as long as I have enough money to keep food on the table and a roof over my head without struggling, I'll be happy
Starting on 25k minimum and eventually 100k plus.

I earned 20k flogging insurance in a call centre before returning to study, so I'd expect at least 25% on top of that after qualifying.

Yah. Full title being "Tier two network engineer" more like support or admin but that's the title they give us

I see. I wanted to do something like that for as long as I can remember, and then recently, Geography stole my fancy! XD

I'm on 27k, live independently and live very comfortably.

It's definitely achievable if you're willing to not be a muppet with your budgeting skills and don't live in a ridiculously expensive area.

My brother is on 25k now and he has more money than he knows what to do with, lives in a nice house in a nice (not expensive) area. He can very easily just go out and buy a new TV on the whim if he wants one and not worry about money, in fact he bought 2 TVs as Christmas presents a long with other expensive electronics and gadgets for family members.

My aim really is to be able to live as care free as my brother (though I don't tend to buy loads of electronics  )
