Genuine fear of Trump becoming president?

I'd (naturally) prefer a conservative candidate, and I must say that Rand Paul is by far the most sensible and pragmatic option that the USA have. Bernie Sanders is a socialist lefty but is still their second best option after Rand Paul.

Had to laugh at someone with Harold Macmillan calling Bernie Sanders a socialist lefty, he's a moderate social democratic, not so different to Macmillan.

Supermac was a one nation conservative, as am I. With regards to the US culture and politics he's the equivalent of their Jez Corbyn. I very much like Marco Rubio, Sanders and Rand Paul though.
You should be far more scared of Sanders destroying the American economy
Here's just a few good deeds by Mr Trump

1986 Saving a family farm

1988 Trump helped save an Orthodox Jewish boys life by flying him on his private jet

2008 Trump sheltered Jennifer Hudson and some of her relatives after her family were murdered

There's more but that'll do for now.

I am genuinely so scared of Trump becoming president and the impact America having a bigoted evil man in power running the country. Not just for myself but for the rest of the world. And I can't do anything about it.

Anyone else feel like this

I'm more scared of Clinton

You think he's an evil man because he wants to stop Muslim immigration? LOL

Oh noes Trumps the new Hitler!

The stupidity of people is amazing. He's a nice billionaire and done plenty of great things to help people out. Heart of gold compared to some other rich out there.

You are literally the first person to mention Muslims in anyway on this thread.

Don't worry there are plenty of other dumbass claims he's made about what he would do if elected that are completely unfeasible and things he's said that are wildly offensive.
Nothing wrong with Clinton.
Not many women have had to run for their lives while under sniper fire on the runway.
Oh....wait.....
Apparently he's going to boycott the Iowa debate because the woman he insulted is going to be one of the moderators (possibly he should have thought of that before insulting her). I assume this will put a dent in his campaign simply because the press might actually have to cover some of the other GOP candidates.
Trump and Sanders both seem like genuine guys. Trump would do what the people tell him to do and Sanders would do what he thinks is best for the people. Clinton seems to be in it for herself; desperate to achieve personal greatness.

From a UK standpoint I believe Rand Paul's pragmatic foreign policy would be the best for us.

One would assume his reasoning for the boycott is he simply does not need to do the debate. He must believe that he can only lose support to others at this debate rather than gain support. When you are at 40% its reasonable to try and stick with what you have got rather than risk it.
Shall we talk about the fact that he supports the second amendment that there shouldn't be gun control.

That's all well and good (in his view) being a patriotic American and all, but he blatantly goes against the first amendment by trying to enforce laws that are associated with muslims.

That could be a logical reason to do it but given he claimed he could shoot someone in the street and not lose votes, I doubt he has that level of humility. Plus he could lose votes by having people actually at the debate get coverage and take away his lead.
Trump is not going to become President.

He is basically an attention seeker and so he is thriving on the media attention he is getting at the moment. He appeals to a core of right-wing voters who don't like immigrants and think the world is too politically correct, and the more outrageous and controversial he is, the more they cheer him and he enjoys the adulation. Given the disarray the Republican party is in, he may be able to get the Republican nomination on the back of that.

Those voters are not going to win him the Presidency though, if he is to become President he will need to have a broad appeal and reach out to other sections of the electorate, but the hole he has dug himself is that by chasing the adulation of his core vote he has alienated lots of other sections of the electorate. Trying to brand himself as this anti-establishment rebel isn't going to win for him any more than it did Farage - remember all the hype about UKIP are going to do this and that and when it came to the General Election he didn't even win a seat and UKIP didn't make the projected progress.

Nate Silver's blog is always good for cutting outside the hype and he points out the big problem for Trump: amongst the general public he has bad favourability ratings and if he wins the nomination he will start the campaign with the worst favourability ratings of any nominee. There's not much time for him to mellow and build bridges with groups he has alienated.

Now I am sure his core supporters will suffer from a kind of confirmation bias about Trump's inevitable victory: the websites they use, the people they talk to, have similar views to them and they will conclude that everyone thinks like that and the 'establishment' is in for an almighty shock on election day. They will then get a massive shock on the day, and will be reduced to ranting again about how "America is finished", "the US will become Muslim by 2030" and how they are going to emigrate etc.

We saw all this before, in 2012, when loads of people were confidently predicting that Obama was "toast" and would be a one-term President, and then they were genuinely shocked when Obama won.

I don't think any of the current Republican candidates are really strong enough to win the Presidency so the real battle is Clinton v Sanders. It will probably be Clinton, and she will go on to be President.
no one cares mate.

People in Nazi Germany could've say Hitler had a heart of gold...increased employment rates, school success etc etc. That doesn't change the fact that he was a xenophobic bas**ard like trump.
I'd put him at odds on to take the nomination, but unlikely to win the presidency.

Clinton would beat him convincingly. Sanders would probably destroy him, taking the wind out of his anti-establishment sails.

Bloomberg could mess that up if he enters though.

No, he's going to boycott the debate because he annihilated Cruz at the last debate and he doesn't want to give him chance to get back in.

The press will cover Trump's thing just as much as the debate*. He'll find a way to make that happen.

It was a smart move.

*edit: which will be aired on CNN, and probably draw more viewers than the debate does anyway.

Yass not the only one who sees that. :woo:
Rand Paul is the most fit for presidency if America doesn't want to go downhill
