Accommodation at Loughborough

Hey guys,

I realise this is entirely dependant on personal preferences, but I need some advice on accommodation at Loughborough. I've received an offer so that's awesome, but I'm unsure of what accommodation to apply for. I want to live in sociable halls, though I am aware that the whole point of uni is the degree at the end of it, so nothing stupidly crazy. I definitely want self-catered, and am not fussy on whether it's an en suite bathroom or shared. I don't want anything really expensive, either.

I'd love to hear some people's experiences in any of the uni halls, and based on my criteria what would you suggest? I'll be studying Politics/International Relations

Thank you!
Hi,

I currently go to Loughborough University and I live in Robert Bakewell halls. Being the most modern halls on campus, you can bet that these will be the most popular! Bakewell as a hall is very sociable and by far holds the most party-ers and event goers out than compared to the other halls on campus. However if you're looking for expense, it might be a problem considering its higher price in comparison to other halls. The halls are self-catered with a very large kitchen, large bedrooms with double beds and an en suite bathroom.

Might be being biased here, but I love Bakewell halls so much that I applied again for my second year here!

To be fair, 99% of Loughborough University's halls are sociable unless you choose the "quiet" option.

Hope I helped! -and congrats on your offer

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I think after looking at tall the halls Robert Bakewell looks super nice. Unfortunately expense is a bit of a deal breaker for me, as I don't have a great deal of money, so that's putting me off a lot. If I can get a decent job and make some money it could be something I may look into.

How do you find Loughborough in general, by the way? In terms of area, socialising, academic side of the uni e.t.c.
You're welcome.

I love Loughborough!

While the town is small and there are a few select "big" shops around, there's plenty of great bars around that you can never get bored of. The campus is boasted as being very large and can be daunting at first, but you soon know your way around absolutely everywhere within a couple of weeks.

Socialising and making friends as soon as you start is great, there are so many events during freshers week that involve nights out but also day events. There is a society for about everything on the planet so you're bound to find people who are into the same things as you are.

I think the academic side in unmatchable. The university defiantly cares about their students, every department is fully equipped with everything you can ever need and the tutors etc are very approachable and friendly. During and after University you can say that you attend(ed) Loughborough University and I assure you that you will be remembered. Being a research heavy University, everything is up to standards and dates, its constantly evolving.

I don't think that I can downplay this place at all

Sorry to butt in but thought I'd say that it's awesome to know that Loughborough is a nice town! :colondollar::h:

Are you doing a course with a placement year?
Yeah I am.

I think its something like 90% of the courses here offer placement years with the course.

If you change your mind, you can always transfer to the 3 year course or vice versa and they are happy to do it.

Yeah, the small town thing doesn't bother me much. I'm in Nottingham atm and that's only a 15 minute train ride, so if the smallness of loughborough ever bothered me I figured I could just come here occasionally! Plus I much, much prefer bars to nightclubs so that's awesome to know. I've only ever really heard good things about Lougborough uni, so it's definitely a big contender when it comes to choosing a firm and insurance choice.

(And don't sweat it, Lovinlife, the more the merrier!)
Glad you're all enjoying it here and as pp have said - it's all very sociable here.

As far as placements go, every single course (- so we are now on 100%!) we offer now has a placement option.

Hey
I think I'm going to apply to Robert Bakewell because I know I want lively halls, but I am wondering about a few things...
what's it like getting back from a night out like at the SU or in town? It's the furthest accommodation so I'm wondering how much of a struggle it is ahah. I'd be doing Graphic Communication and Illustration but don't really want to live too close by i.e. Butler Court. Also, did you have a problem with phone reception? Bc it mentions that on the website and it seems like it could be a nightmare?
Coming back from the Student Union is absolutely fine and is surprisingly not as long as you think. From town I would suggest getting the bus. They come very regularly and there are bus stops all over campus. The one closest to Robert Bakewell is just in front of the library, which is only a 2 minute walk.

Phone reception is great for me (iPhone on EE) and I never have any problems.

It is the furthest accommodation, but in my opinion you never notice. Bakewell is such a nice modern hall to live in with a tight community and everything at your disposal. I personally have to walk to the Design School most days which is on the other side of campus, but there are never any problems
heeey, who is going to live in Robert Bakewell?
Hi,

I have reserved a room in Hazelrigg-rutland and have paid my room bond. I am wondering when I will be contacted regarding the next steps in the process.

Thanks

Hi AntLoveitt96

You will be emailed towards the end of the month with a request to complete an online Living in Halls induction, so look out for this. Also, keep an eye on the accommodation announcements page on our website for any important updates

Amy
Hello, I am a clearing student who got given Cayley as my halls. I really need self-catered halls so if anyone seeing this is willing to swap their self-catered halls room with my catered option, please message me! This is for students starting October 2016
