PGCE Applications 2016

A masters is 180 credits - normally 120 credits from modules and 60 from the dissertation.

If you were to take a normal MA part-time, you'd take 60 credits in year 1, 60 in year 2, and then do another 60 in the dissertation period.

So I imagine it's the same with the MEd - the 60 credits from the PGCE get you to the year 2 part of it.

However, I doubt those credits would count towards a different masters though - it'd probably have to be an education-related discipline. I can't see the PGCE credits counting towards a physics MSc, for example.

That makes perfect sense.
Thank you!!
Hi guys, i've notified my provider and told them I have passed both skills test but my offer hasnt changed to unconditional. Is this because they are probably still waiting on health checks and DBS? Also how long do those take?

Have u met ur other conditions like passing ur degree. If yes, then they probably update it once the dbs and health check are clear
I'm not sure about how long it will take as I haven't done that yet.
Congratulations on passing ur skills test

Depends on the course. Some are specialised in particular subjects whilst others are generally specialised
For anyone who has already had an interview at the IOE, how did it go? Was the content of the maths and english tests quite difficult or similar to the types of questions you'd find in the professional skills tests?
I've sent off my application, but I'm already having second thoughts about starting this September. I really want to go teach English in China and get some more experience, as well as just go back to China generally, but at the same time I don't want to let my family down as they're expecting me to go into teaching straight away. I'm so torn.

I would say do what you want to do, especially if you have no teaching experience as you will really get a feel for what it's like and come back more confident. It can only help your application

I already have the necessary 10 days experience, as well as working as a language assistant and as an English teacher on summer camp in China last summer. I know teaching's what I want to do, but I just can't shake the urge to travel back to China-it's my second home ultimately

I thought my family would feel this way too when I turned from my offer from UCL to do an MA and work in a school, maybe pursue PhD etc. But they know this will make me happy, and so obviously they are thrilled! I'm sure you'll find that if you are doing what you love and living the life you want to live, you'll get support. And regardless - you should do what you want to do anyway - because otherwise you will only regret letting others make that decision for you.

I got offered a physics scholarship

Congratulations
Do you qualify for the bursary as well?
I've submitted an application for Secondary Science Chemistry and just booked my numeracy test for tomorrow. Does it matter to Uni's how high you score or does it just need to be above 63%?? ... I'm in 78% so with the very last practice test i've done.

Just had my interview this morning. No tests at mine, just a group discussion, a writing task and an interview. Without giving anything away, writing task was nothing like skills tests, more long-form writing (hand written). Take a pen!
For those who've heard back from IOE, roughly how long did it take? While rationally I know I won't hear the same day, I keep refreshing my emails!
Hi, the professional skills tests are just pass or fail
Oh cool! So the unis don't see percentage etc.

Hi Amanda, if you pass you just get a 'pass' and won't know your mark, so it won't make a difference as long as you pass! I'm doing secondary science chemistry too and I've got numeracy next week. Good luck!
