Anyone here managed to get onto a clinical doctorates?

I was wondering if there are any psychology graduates that have managed to get onto a clinical doctorates here?

If so, I'm very interested to hear of your work experience which got you onto the doctorate, and which year you managed to get on?

Hi,

I'm a current first year trainee on a clinical doctorate programme.

I graduated in the summer of 2013 with a first class degree and spent two years working as an assistant psychologist in the NHS (one year in a chronic pain management programme and one year in a low secure locked rehab unit). In between these two jobs I held a very brief research assistant post too. I had two part time jobs in low band NHS roles whilst I was still studying for my degree which I think helped me to get an assistant psychologist post so quickly (I was offered the job before I graduated).

Hi Memifer, thank you for the reply!

Your message is encouraging. I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate, and I feel a first class degree is within my reach. I have already done a year as a research assistant within the university, I have a summer research internship, and a year working as both a support worker for learning dissabilities, mental health and brain injury rehabilitation.

From what I've heard, assistant psychologist posts are really competitive, and it can take years to get on them, so I am surprised you got one so quickly? What do you think set yourself apart from others? What was your role in the NHS job you had? Did you apply to many assistant psychologist posts?
