What do girls mean when they say they want 'a knight in shining armour'?

I hear this a lot, but what do they mean by it, what does it mean for them.

They want someone to come and "rescue" them, hence "knight". I doubt many girls want this, though
You need to slay a dragon if you don't wanna be friend zoned
I s'pose it's the embodiment of all of the good qualities that a guy can have. Charm, chivalry, loyalty etc.

Or maybe that's a cross between Prince Charming and.. I'm not sure anymore. :s-smilie:

They want a knight wearing shining armour. It's not that difficult to decode.
They want Sir Ian Mckellen in polished armour :/

Well it's more of a subconscious thing; the girl being the damsel in distress and the knight rescuing the girl from all her woes...

Probably quite a bit stronger, bolder and braver than Prince Charming though.
