Reading over this link it looks like we'll definitely be entitles to student loans it's just the NHS bursary that might be changing. I guess if loans increased like they're suggesting for nursing it would probably still be affordable. Not ideal though!

I got an email from student finance on monday saying it will open soon so hopefully we won't have to wait much longer! So many obstacles to cross to actually get onto and start this course haha

I spoke to SFE on the phone about something unrelated and they said online applications go live on 29 Feb!
Hear rumour of Scotland to finance grad med places with financial support on the proviso a contract is signed to state you will train in Scotland and not just run away to Australia. Watch this space.

I was under the impression none of the Scottish unis offer dedicated graduate medicine courses.

Seriously? Where did you hear this? Genuinely asking. Training in Scotland has actually been my plan for some time (Scot in England for past 6 years, but long game is to head back north, after grad med which I'll be starting this year).

Is it for Scottish only?
Singapore makes med students sign a contract binding them to the country for a minimum of 5 years post graduation, leaving = financial suicide (unless seriously wealthy). I would be happy to commit to a fixed term contract the way people in the armed forces do too. I have no intention of leaving.

In some Australian states there are 'Bonded Medical Places' giving scholarships in return for service in country areas on graduation - why on earth doesn't the British government use a similar scheme to fill vacant GP positions?
Army, Royal Navy and RAF Bursaries : http://www.money4medstudents.org/armed-forces-bursaries

Bursary of £3,000 for the 1st year of a 4, 5 or 6 year Graduate Entry MBChB course at a UK Medical School for anyone with a connection to the Wye Valley area :

Got it from my gran who just might want me back in Scotland rather than England :P No Idea if it will ever happen or when though. Just rumour.

Ahhh... thanks. It seems there will be some funding for GEM in Scotland (I understand there aren't any graduate entry courses in Scotland), tied to staying in Scotland for training, which I think would be a pretty good deal. I imagine it would take a few years for a brand new GEM course to be developed, so probably too late for me! :frown:

This is awesome I love just outside Kidderminster! But there's no indication of them doing it this year? I've sent an email anyway. Thanks for the heads up

I've also heard this, although not for Medicine. My housemate applied for grad-entry Dentistry at Aberdeen and mentioned being offered something similar.

Anyone who is unhappy with the actions of Jeremy Hunt, may want to consider signing this petition:

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/121152

Petition: Consider a vote of No Confidence in Jeremy Hunt, Health Secretary
In case anyone's interested, I thought this was brilliant! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf6wW3cj25A
Didnt this petition already get to 200000+ and get debated several months ago?

If I remember they did absolutely naf all.

Quite. Its like 'consultation' - which doesnt mean they HAVE to do anything, merely consult. Or in this case, talk about it briefly and quickly dismiss it.

However - if the voices get loud enough about the Junior Doctors, the Tories will eventually realise they might loose the next election over it. So stand by for nebulous election 'promises' like 'the Junior Doctors will have a mammoth enquiry/review/parliamentary sing-song' but only IF the Tory party is voted back in. And again, even if they did, it wouldnt actually commit the Tories to doing anything - merely just 'enquiring'. So essentially folks, if you believe in the NHS don't even think about voting Tory.
Its a second petition, which demonstrates to the government that the strength of feeling is not going away on this. People are angry and not shutting up about it.
Hey Guys,

I have a query. Does your academic referee HAVE to have known you for a certain number of years as an official requirement for medical school application?

I had to move universities for my second year due to extenuating circumstances. I haven't even had much interaction with any of my lecturers so, I'm struggling find a academic referee atm :frown:.
