NHS Scientist Training Programme 2016 applicants!

I have done my tests 3 weeks ago and haven't had an confirmation e-mail as well. Both of them are 'completed' on Oriel. So do not worry. Apparently not everyone got and e-mail (maybe some quirk of their system.)

Does anyone know if they combine your results for maths and logical? If you're in the bottom 30% for Maths but in top 70% for logical, do you still have a chance or no?

I got one saying "thank you for completing our tests, but you were a silly numpty during the tests, therefore we will not consider you. You even had a calculator for Pete's sake!"

Should i read into the fact they have only sent certain people a thank you for completing the tests email, or am i being paranoid ?

hahah well i got a thankyou email so maybe the thankyou email was the polite way of saying "we won't be contacting you again"

I absolutely agree here. I wish they would just automatically tell you if you will not be long listed. Surely they have software to do that?!




Definitely paranoid. Mine was crap, so sending me an email either means nothing, or something bad.

Anyone who has applied previously have any idea roughly what percentage make it through the short listing?

I'm not 100% sure how it works, when people say long-listed are these the people that make it through the tests? Then are their applications read and candidates are short listed based on that? On our application page is says short-listing score, so I assume we actually get "scored" on our applications? Anyone have any idea what criteria they use to score you, seems like it would be quite qualitative than quantitative and I assume only one assessor looks at your application, could this not lead to bias?!

It should be automatic email after the deadline, i wish!

Thanks for your reply. I have had a somewhat long route in science. I did a BSc Hons (1st class) in Biomedical Science during which I did a placement year and got my state registration to practice as a Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry. Decided instead to then to an MRes in medical and molecular biosciences (specialising in cancer and immunology with Distinction) then did a PhD in Neuroimmunology (it was looking at post-translational modification of proteins in multiple sclerosis so embodied both biochemistry and immunology). I now work as a postdoc in immunology specifically working on pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. This involves lots of lab work but also recruiting patients to the study and consenting/taking blood from patients with rheumtoid arthritis at a hospital in london (I am also now a qualified phlebotomist so I can take blood from my research patients). I have applied this year for the first time for STP as I no longer feel like I want to continue in academia research as I only ever seem to get funding for 12 months at a time, so STP seems like a good move in the right direction as I can still do research but in an nhs setting with patients (and more job security). I have always thought about STP training but never been brave enough to take the plunge! I have applied for immunology (1st choice) and biochemistry 2nd choice.

Where are people getting Thursday as the date for the results from? Have they said that will be when we find out if we're long listed? Seem to remember it taking a lot longer than that last year!
