Investment Bankers do many different things. The investment banker acts in a capital markets advisory capacity to corporations and governments,rather than dealing directly with individual investors. Investment bankers help their clients raise money in the capital markets, provide various financial advisory services, and assist with mergers and acquisition activity.


Yes, it's not a single role and is often applied incorrectly by the media. It is not a job title.

I'd assumed it'd been prompted by someone OP had talked to dating someone female who didn't know what investment banking was.

Reading over the OP again, though, it does come across as quite patronizing (especially the "without Googling" part).

I found that it came across really sexist and patronising. That isn't me being "sensitive", it honestly came across that way.

Not all but many. It gets worse...I left a job as a sales trader once and had to sign a document where I promised to never say a negative word about the firm....I was severely sexually harassed during my employment there...also, I never recommend them as boyfriends, they have far too many opportunities to get themselves into trouble. I get the impression this thread has something to do with dating IB's???? So there's my advice OP.

seems like he feels women, without even knowing what i.b. is, complain about not getting into the field as much (they might complain and they don't get employed as much i guess). And perhaps it caused an awkward hilt in the convo during a date.

lol you feminists....you never pass up an opportunity to get mad over nothing.

If you bothered to read the OP, it's aimed at women because the reason I am asking has to do with dating, and given I am a heterosexual male, I date women.

The "without googling" part is so I can get an answer based on your actual knowledge, rather than you just googling it and regurgitating the info here.
