Heya buddy!
I got 100% UMS on my English literature GCSE and didn't memorise a single quote for prose - I did OMAM and AIC and uh. Something for poetry. An anthology that included Ozymandias and My Last Duchess. Moonlight on the Tide? The Character section? IDK.
ANYWAY, point is - more than quotes, know specific details. Know exactly how Curly's wife is positioned after she's killed, know exactly how the last scene with George and Lenny mirrors the first - it's remembering the minute detail (or memorising like one minute detail from each chapter eheheh) that impresses examiners: memorising quotes doesn't actually get you any marks on the mark scheme.
Hope this was helpful, and good luck!

Ah well, I've definitely learnt something there - thank you for letting me know. My teacher always bangs on about memorising quotes but most of the kids in our class don't think she knows what she's talking about most of the time

Congrats on your fabulous score!! We are doing OMAM and AIC also, but we have a third book of Heroes plus poetry so I'm rather glad that quotes aren't as important anymore - thank you again

Hello,

I would just like to compliment you on your work ethic. It is really inspiring to listen to your personal story about how you have overcome the challenges in your life and still remain truly committed to your studies. If everyone had the same level of motivation and determination you have then we would have a much better society.

Keep up with the good work and if you need any help then let me know as I did A level Maths and Chem and got A's in both.

Aww thank you! I've never seen a reason not to put effort into studies, so that's what I have hopefully done. Thanks for offering to help too, I really appreciate it

UPDATE

So I am about to start revising but I thought I had better outline my plans to keep you guys updated. Today I plan to:

Physics: More notes pages hand-written

Chemistry: List all my weaknesses and summarise key information

English Literature: make chapter summaries so I know specific details

Biology: Notes pages hand-written

I also have to tidy my room in between this, because I am having a revision session with some friends tomorrow - the first time I have ever done one, so I will let you know how it goes

Happy revising everyone :P
Good luck, you can do it!! I see you have the motivation, now all you need is the hard work and dedication and you'll be getting the A*s you want!
Here's a motivational quote to keep you going

That's got to be one of the best quotes I've ever seen - totally sums up life at the minute. My family don't understand why I study so much and thinkI am wasting my time - but I'll show them

Thanks for reading my blog

WELCOME!
School bits:
Hi Everyone,

I'm in year 11 so I will be sitting my GCSEs in less than 100 days (eek). I also have mocks on the 22nd Feb so keeping this thread will make sure I have kept up with my revision. At the moment my targets and grades are:

English Language: A*
English Literature: A*
Maths: A*
Biology: A*
Chemistry: A*
Physics: A*
German: A*
History: A*
Geography: A*
ICT: A*

Some of you may look at this and wonder how I can improve, but I set really high standards and in some of my mocks I have been getting 84/85 and scores like that, so I am working towards getting as high a mark as possible, and not just securing the grade.

Hopefully, if I can get the grades, I want to go on to college and study Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Geology.

Personal bits:
If you want a bit of background I've always been quite good academically (though I genuinely hate to admit it) but I believe it is down to the fact that I have severe Atopic Eczema (that the specialist said was the worst in 30 years) and because of this, I have found studying to be a worthy distraction. I also can't see out of my left eye which makes life interesting but I like it that way. If I can work hard enough, and get into University, I will be the first person in my family to do so, and considering my parents have barely any qualifications, this is definitely something I aspire to.

A few last words:
I am open to any advice or constructive criticism and I am happy to help anyone too.

If you want to find out more about me as a person I would be happy to post info and along the way, I will be detailing revision I have done, so if you would like to see pictures of it just let me know and I'll be happy to upload

Hey there, woah amazing grades!
You're doing 5 A levels? Now THATS dedication haha, I bet I'll struggle with my 3...(although saying that one of them is further maths)
You seem to have everything in order and you're able to stick to your plan, whenever I try to make a plan I never end up sticking to it and just end up revising the subjects I like :s-smilie:
Hopefully you'll be a bit of competition and motivate me to revise to get the same grades as you (as you can't exactly get much better :colondollar:)
Lastly, good luck with this and I guarantee you'll be very happy on results day!

Thank you and yes 5 A levels is the plan, hopefully I'll cope. I do enjoy a competition so, sure, I'll be that competitive edge you need - it should help us both

In terms of getting better I can't really improve grade wise but I would love to walk away with as close to 100% in each test as I can, so that's what my biggest target is!

Good luck to you too and I'm sure with the work you are putting in now, you will achieve very good grades by August - all the best!

If you ever need help I'm always here

Oh cos I do triple science as well and only do up to the threes! I would not be able to handle and extra 9! Do you even need to take the extra ones or did you just take it because you enjoy it or for another reason?

I think it depends on exam boards! I know that aqa have the same names like b1 etc but it only goes uop to the 3s! But I'm also on Ocr and doing triple

Lots of people are saying that mocks are a true representation so I am definitely not taking these grades for granted. Well done on your fab grades and I shall continue to work up until my very last exam. Good luck in your future plans and thanks for reading my blog
How is revision going for everyone? I would love to know how you are getting on and what you are enjoying most (there must be something). If we happen to be doing the same exam boards for a subject, I would be more than happy to offer subject advice if anyone needs it.

Hi, you have a very nice blog but it would be nice to know your current grade. Other than that I think it's fine.

Oh. You could help me out in Maths if you can as I'm awful at Maths especially when I have to do the new 9-1 GCSE Maths exam.
UPDATE FOR DAY 2

So, here's what I've been up to today:

I've tidied my room so that my friends can come round to revise

Done 10 flashcards for Chemistry C1

Made a topic revision list for Chemistry, Biology and Physics

Hand-written some more notes for Physics - the Greenhouse effect, global warming, seismic waves and total internal reflection

I have also started to type these notes up so that I have a neat copy

And I have written up the first paragraph in neat of my German written coursework on a famous celebrity - can you guess who it might be?
